Would you participate in a clinical trial? |
I want to go participate in a clinical trial, its a week in a clinic, they'll give me low doses of a cholesterol medication (thats already on the market), the point is to only see how long it takes to have the effects in my blood, and then how long after to stop having the stuff in my blood. I want to do it, because I can make the cash in a small period of time before I start grad school, my boyfriend is REALLY against it (he veto-ed it...) its "Phase 2" if that helps I've done a bunch of trials. It's not just crackheads that participate - medical students earn cash that way, too. Some of my classmates in med school got malaria, testing a vaccine. IVE DONE IT BEFORE it is no big deal . But some feel that you are being USED as a Guinea pig and that is BAD and it could be DANGEROUS usually these trials pose not even the least bit of a threat. But to just do if for the money and make a habit of doing it and not for any other reason may not be the best Idea. But if you have a problem such as HIGH CHOLESTOROL and are looking for a good med and will participate in a study then i guess it is OK.....Sounds like you are just doing it for the MOENY tho..........well maybe ONE wont hurt. If it is really a drug already on the market, why are they just now working out the pharmacodynamics? Are you sure they are telling all? If it is indeed a known drug, as you say, it is probably OK. The statins have some rare but dangerous side effects, so it is not totally free of risk. Be sure they have reviewed all the known side effects of the drug with you before you leap in. Doesn't sound like a particularly risky trial. I would want details about potential risks, possible side effects, etc... but on the surface of what you have provided, I would probably be ok with participating. I wouldn't. i would and have. Hey this is Sausha and if I were you I would probably do it why, because you are getting paid for it so i see no harm in that. Your boyfriend probably doesn't want you doing it because he thinks something might happen. But you know what the only person who can answer this question is you especially after you discuss this with your boyfriend because in the end your gonna do what you want or what you think is right. Always compare your thoughts and your boyfriends and see if maybe you'll can agree on something. Go for it. Every single protocol I have been on in my cancer treatment has been a trial. Although most of the meds were already approved, it was the specific protocol that was on trial, but I did do one trial that was with a brand new med. |
