Why do i keep getting cold sores?

I have had 4 cold sores in the last couple of months. Normally they scar for anything up to a year too. I have used the cream on them but they just keep coming back this time. They are always in the same space as the previous one too. Been getting them for 16 years now but never so many in a short space of time. Help!

You need to see a doctor about them. There is no over-the-counter medication or home remedy that cures cold sores. But there is a good prescription medication for cold sores. It will make them go away much faster, and as a result of taking this medication you will have far fewer outbreaks of cold sores.

The absolute best treatment for cold sores is a prescription medication in pill form called Valtrex. It was intended for genital herpes, but cold sores are caused by the same family of viruses, and Valtrex stops colds sores in their tracks. None of the other treatments come close to the effectiveness of Valtrex, not the ointment Zovirax, and certainly not Abreva or anything else. Ask your doctor about it to see if you would be a good candidate for this medication. My doctor prescribed it for me for cold sores about five years ago and after taking it only a couple of times I hardly ever get a cold sore any more, and before Valtrex I was having several attacks a year. The virus that causes cold sores hides within your nervous system (even after they 'seem' to have gone). The cream only treats the physical symptoms - you can't get rid of this form of the herpes virus. Try and keep your immune system strong becuase a weak immune system can lead to a remission. Apart from this I would suggest seeing your GP and find out if there is any stronger medication that you can take to get rid of th physical symptoms.

you need to build up your immune system, maybe take a course of vitamins and minerals, cut out junk food, drink plenty of water and eat healthily. Take exercise and cut out stress. Stress is major cause in flare ups of cold sores. The virus remains in your body for ever but stress and generally being run down can cause flare ups.

Cold sores are oral Herpes. Try some Abreva. Using just a dab of it every other day in the area can actually help prevent a break out.
