How to cure the common cold?

I know there's no cure for the common cold. But is there a way to make it More bearable? Right now I have it all, the headaches, stuffy nose, and problems breathing, oh yeah, I cant sleep at night either!

Me too! I've been looking around everywhere to make my cold more bearable, this is what I've found (sorry it's rather a long list):

Drink LOTS of water, as this makes the mucous thinner and easier to break down and eliminate

Vitamin C in either tablet form or powdered sachet from your local drugstore (apparently getting it from juice means it has a high sugar content and will compromise your immune system) though don't take it on a day that you're planning to go out as apparently it can sometimes induce diarrhoea?

Rosehips tea from a health store is supposedly the richest natural source of Vit C, green tea is good for your immune system and chicken soup is renowned for being able to soothe a sore throat and reduce inflammation

Over-the-counter decongestants like sudafed should reduce ear pressure and overall stuffiness, gargling with warm salt water should deal with the sore throat, tylenol for fever and pain and nyquil/bendadryl to help you sleep at night, paracetamol might also help reduce the syptoms a bit during the daytime

Garlic capsules, general cough drops...a glass of hot water with the juice of a lemon and a teaspoon of honey as lemon juice is rich in vitamin C (without the sugar of a fruit juice) and honey helps to soothe a sore throat

It's also been advised to stay away from dairy products, and the more traditional methods being rest & relaxation (it's never good to carry on a normal day during a cold, you'll just make it last longer and give it to other people) and to bundle up in bed to sweat it out, and once you feel a bit better to go for a gentle walk in the fresh air

To relieve the bunged-up feeling you could also try boiling some water, putting it in a bowl and leaning over it to inhale the steam, and you could always add a drop or two of eucalyptus oil to make it even more powerful

Zinc may help to shorten the duration of the cold, which you can get high doses of in liver, red meat, eggs and especially oysters

If eating raw garlic doesn't appeal to you, chillies can bring on a sweat and basil is reputed to relieve the headaches, and of course it's always a good idea to get your five-a-day fruit & veg!

There're so many supposed 'cures' that I've found, I think it's just a case of trying each one and seeing if it works. Hope I helped, I'll be trying some of these out myself!

right now the best treatment for the common cold is to stay home, rest, and liquids. Sometimes the OTC meds can make things worse by overdosing on them or actually being allergic to the ingredients. I have to be careful not to take too many decongestants or I'll end up actually stuffier than I was. Loading up on vitamin C doesn't hurt, might not help, but it doesn't hurt as does eating chicken soup (it's the steam that helps the most) but for me I crave salt when I am sick so I want to drink very salty broths and soups.

I have found in the past that NyQuil is the best, also you could try a nedipod or sinus rinse works good too. Zinc is good to take while your sick, you can get that in cough drops. Vitamin C, cool mist vaporizer are all good things.
