What are some good home remedies for a common cold? |
I have the typical cold right now. The runny nose, watery eyes, scratchy throat and I cannot sleep because I can't breathe. I have tried the Benylin extra strength pills, but it doesn't work. I was just wondering if there's a home remedy that helps? And if so, can you give me a recipe if possible? Thanks so much :) Asprin for pain and fever, sudafed for nasal stuff and the watery eyes, drink lots of liquids and rest. The only thing you can do with a cold is treat the symptoms. Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces not pounds of course, ounces of water. Example if your weight is 150 then you would drink 75 ounces of water each day until you are well. But also tank up on the vitamin C. Hot steamy shows help you breath if you take them and have slow inhales through the nose and out the mouth. Drink lemon water warm and flavored with honey as it helps clean mucus out of the body. Get plenty of sleep. Perhaps also a small bit of time in some bright (warm) sunlight would help if at all possible. If all that doesn't help then go to the doctor you may need something like a perscription. There's quite a few things you can do. First off, what you need to do is avoid sugar and caffienne. Those things will goo you up even worse! well, benedryl usually works for me but they make me super sleepy so dont take it in the morning. but taking it at night should ease your symptoms and help u sleep. you should definately invest in halls cough drops. they come in sugarfree, lemon, honey w/ ginger? not completely sure about the flavors. they taste pretty bad but they give you suuch relief. a home remedy i suggest is making some ginger tea. just boil fresh ginger in water for about 3-5 hours. i tend to put in a lot of ginger, but that really depends on how strong you like your tea. alone, the tea isnt very appetizing, but if you add honey(to sweeten the tea and also soothe your throat) it tastes amazing. its spicy yet sweet and hot. also, taking hot showers relieves my sinuses as they open up in the steam. just try to relax and get plenty of sleep. hope you feel better! :] Cinnamon tea. Boil some water and pour it in a cup. Put a cinnamon stick in the cup for 5-10 minutes (until it turns orangey-red). Add milk and honey, use cinnamon stick to stir. Enjoy. get a glass of lemonade and boil it then put a tablespoon of honey into it and mix drink quickly. it tastes really Gross but works if it's taken at the beginning of your cold tea, warm liquid, dont drink any cold liquids, and bury urself under your blankets till ur sweating hot, and stay there for a long long time, like 1-3 hours, then take a hot shower. tea and a hot mist vaporizer |
