I have a cold sore what's the quickest way to get rid of it? |
It's awful and it's not even on my lip....it's right next to my nose....HELP!!! Unfortunately, I'm a cold sore expert. I've grown out of them a bit, but I used to get six or eight every year. At the first sign of a tingle, apply ice. That may prevent it from developing into a cold sore. If you have them frequently, see a doctor and get a prescription for Zovirax (acyclovir) pills or cream. When had four cold sores on my lower lip at the same time (yes, ouch), I called the doctor and he gave me a prescription for the cream. They were gone in about five days. I saw another doctor for something else when I happened to have a new cold sore, and he gave me a prescription for the pills. It was gone in three days - unbelievably fast for me. If you don't want to go to the doctor, you can try Abreva, but you have to use it early and consistently. Keep a cream or ointment (like Blistex) on the cold sore at all times to prevent it from crusting over. This is purely a cosmetic issue, though. If you have big blistery bubbles, sterilize a needle and poke a hole in it to drain it. Have a tissue handy! This will relieve some of the pressure and make it look a little less disgusting. Please make sure your hands and the needle are clean, both before and after. DO NOT TAKE ASPIRIN! At least, don't take aspirin if you are under 19. Cold sores are a variation of the chicken pox and herpes viruses. Children are not supposed to take aspirin (or any other salicylates) when they have chicken pox because it can lead to Reye's Syndrome. The amino acid L-Lysine can prevent cold sores if taken daily, but it doesn't do anything once the cold sore has developed. Believe it or not, when I first feel a cold sore coming on I've had some luck preventing it by "thinking it away." I lay down in a darkened room and relax. I visualize tiny little people with flame throwers inside my lip, burning up the cold sore from the inside. It has worked for me several times, but only if I do it early. My aunt does the same thing, only she imagines ice freezing the cold sore. Cold sores are brought on by stress, exposure to the virus (have you been around anyone with chicken pox lately?), and sunburn. Try to avoid those and you can avoid future outbreaks. Once you get a cold sore, you're likely to get another one in that same spot, over and over. Be careful not to spread the virus to other locations. Wash your hands thoroughly after applying cream. Do not touch it, and if you do, wash your hands immediately. Be very careful not to touch your eyes - a cold sore that spreads to the eyes can cause serious damage. TAKE PANADOL COLD RELIEF try abreva its works as good as what a doctor prescribes and also take some aspirin it starts to dry it up! Sour Kraut juice, i heard it helps1 get some topical antiviral gel or ointment to be applied on for several days, i'm sure it will work! buy some zoviorax...or blistize cream to put on it............xxx try using abreva, and don't pick at it............. |
