YES!! Herpes is herpes. Whether you have it in your mouth or your genitals it is still herpes. There is no difference in the virus. There is no complex verses simplex. One form does not evolve into another. Each type does not only establish latency in one specific location. .

If you have cold sores you have oral herpes. If you give someone oral sex, then you can transfer the virus to the genitals causing genital herpes. The only difference in the virus is location.

There are two types of herpes. Type 1 is often thought of as the oral type, but this has been proven incorrect. 30% of all new genital herpes cases are caused from type 1. It is actually easier to transfer type 1 oral herpes to the genitals than it is to transfer type 1 genital herpes to the genital area.

Type 2 is rarely found in the mouth, but that does not mean it cannot be found there. About 5% of type 2 cases are located orally.

Yes, you can. Cold sores are caused by the Herpes Simplex virus and genital herpes are caused by the Herpes Complex virus. Simplex can evolve into complex. Both are caused by HPV and as long as you are a carrier, you can transmit! Your best bet: If there's a sore, run out the door!
