Really dried, chapped skin and cold sores on lips?? any dermatologists out there???? please help me!!?

i have had really bad skin on my lips for years now, sometimes its better than others but it is almost always fry, i tried literally all the different creams i could get my hands on!!!
i have also had two cold sores on my lower lip for about a year, they lie low under the skin so you cant really notice them but there is a slightly lighter colour skin above them and i can feel them under my skin, i have used all the creams i could find but they wont budge!!!!!!!!!

i even tried a thing called bio oil that can be used for a few different things like stretch marks, scars and dehydrated skin but it still doesnt have much of a lasting effect, i apply it and once it is dry my lips stay smooth for a few minutes but then they return to how they were before!!!

i know a change in diet is probably needed and i am going to take supplements that i think will help (vit a, e, d and a thing called Lysine)

what else can i do??
thanks!

lightly whipped egg whites are great for this sort of thing along with nappy rash just whip them til they turn white and then apply onto skin and let it dry

as this has been going on for so long Id go to gp and get some zovirax or something similar

diet is the key to stopping things reoccuring watch your dairy itntake and lots of vit c - kiwis are good for this - you can also rub the skin on you lips
You Doc can give you Zorivax cream, which is really good, however since you have had them a long time the Doc could also prescribe Zovirax tablets (only given in extreme cases).

Stress is a contributing factor along with diet.

Go along and see your Doc!
Hope you get well soon! x
See your doctor, but use carmex on your lips, it'll help some for now
Have for tried Carmex? That's really good for chapped lips, and you can get it with SPF 15 which protects lips from the sun which is good since being in the sun can trigger cold sores. But if that fails go to the doctors, they can give you special stuff for the chapped lips and cold sores. I get cold sores and usually stuff like Zorvirax and Lypsil Cold Sore Gel from the pharmacists gets rid of them but once I had a really bad one and got some cream from the doctors which was brilliant. Try to take Vitamin C tablets, they are really good at reducing the number of cold sores you get and helping them to heal faster when you do get them.
Personal experience
LYSINE and ZINC

LYSINE is an amino acid (protein) suppliment (pill). It is used to nourish the skin and help repair skin cells.

ZINC is good to use for the prevention of cold sores as it metabolises protein as well as promoting healthy skin.

take these together.

Before I started taking this I was getting cold sores frequently. I now get them maybe twice a year. A year ago I ran out and stopped taking it for a month, I got a cold sore! since then I have been taking it every day and havent had one since. BIG improvement.

I don't think any Dr would endorse this but I have a method that has almost stopped cold sores. I take 1000mg a day of Lysine (sold as L-Lysine) and Zinc, at least 8.3mg (55% RDA) . There is also a topical formula that is labeled as super lysine+ and also Lip clear Lysine+. These are also quite good at nourishing the lips and keeping them nice and soft and smoothe.

Zinc oxide is also supposed to be good at healing coldsores but this is not speaking from personal experience, I can't say that it works as I have never used it.

WARNING ABOUT LYSINE

This can cause problems with the kidneys. I don't think this is too common but there is a warning about lysine putting strain on the kidneys if too much is taken and for a long period of time.
