Cancer keeps coming back (colon cancer)?

My friend was diagnosed with cancer and they did chemo and got rid of it. however it came back and he is on his second time of taking chemo. What are the chances that it will keep coming back over and over again? how does this work with chemo too? Will he stop responding ever?

That is hard to know for sure, but it seems likely that it could. However there are a lot of factors involved such as genetics, dosage and time intervals of chemo therapy. etc. There is an interesting company I know of that can check to see if cancer cells are metastasizing to other parts of the body. They are called Cell Point Diagnostics. They have some clinical studies going on right now, may be worth checking into for your friend. They only require a blood sample. They then put it on a microchip and it is scanned for cancer cells. This can give the doctors an early indication on whether the chemo they are giving is effective or not.
