If someone has colon cancer and has initial symptons, do they usually get worse if ignored for like 3 years?

Well, if someone survives that long, idk how you would survive with undiagnosed and treated cancer for years but I was just wondering this since I know that cancer or tumors just keep getting worse as time goes by and as weeks and months pass its gets into more advanced stages.

They would likely get worse, and the person would likely get new symptoms. Cancer, if left untreated can grow in size as well as spread distantly.
Fortunately, there is screening available for colon cancer, so if you have a family history, it is important to get screened!

Colon cancers are usually slow growing, so can be in the body for years without causing any symptoms, and even when they start causing symptoms, they can be mild and overlooked.

BUT mild or no symptoms doesn't mean it's safe to ignore. The cancer will continue to grow, and later treatment will be more radical and have lower chance of success.

Most colon cancers are found at stage 3, because of the low rate of symptoms. If you have a family risk of colon cancer, it's important to have the checkups....catching polyps early can mean a very simple treatment (snip out the polyp, job done). Finding a developed tumour will mean surgery and chemo.

My husband had stage 3 colon cancer, found by chance when he had appendix removed. Surgery and chemo got him the all clear. The doctors estimate it had been growing for 5-10 years, and was causing no symptoms. It had already spread to one lymph node....if left another 3 years, it would have got further and the outlook would be very poor.

There are different types of cancer. Some are slow growing and some are faster.
Early detection is the best defense against all types of cancer.

if someone in the family has or had colon cancer it is wise
to get your colon checked to be sure you dont have it.
