What color of blood & stool is accosiated with colon cancer.?

I have had red blood in my stool for a month now. I have seen a dr. and have a appt: for the end of next month for a lower flexocopy and have had an upper gi and complete blood count that came back ok. The blood is somtimes bright and somtimes less bright but always red in color.It appears to be striped or streeked in the stool and not spotted and or bloched. I have read that colon cancer would give a darker stool and blood and i have not eather of those. I feel fine with the exception of the mornings i feel a little stomach pain before i us e the bathroom #2. Any ideas?

More often than not it is red. Dark blood is usually an indication the area of bleeding is further from the anus, more advanced disease and/or there is an obstruction, which you do not have symptoms of. If you are looking for causes other than colon cancer it could be hemorrhoids, diverticulosis, abnormal blood vessels (angiodysplasia) or colitis. However the most common problem with no symptoms other than bleeding is anal fissures.

You don鈥檛 mention how old you are or if you have had a colonoscopy recently as I wonder why your doctor is doing a sigmoidoscopy rather than a colonoscopy. I would not be satisfied with a sigmoidoscopy unless you have had a colonoscopy in the last 3-4 years that showed no problems or if you are in your 20s. Sigmoidoscopy is very useful in certain circumstances, but not as a cancer screening test. If polyps are found, even small ones, in the rectosigmoid they are usually associated with polyps further down the colon beyond the reach of the scope and you will need a colonoscopy. So why not do it right the first time?

Another person who answered brought up being gay. If you are, you should know anorectal cancers that are HPV positive have been on the rise for sometime now and they are occurring in young men. So you should be diligent in having any problem checked out and use protection. These cancers have a poorer prognosis than in other parts of the colon. This would be a situation where a periodic sigmoidoscopy is very useful after a screening colonoscopy.

Try not to worry yourself too much over this. Colon cancers are usually slow growing and I have seen many patients who have had bleeding far longer than you with other cancer symptoms and still have the cancer confined to a polyp. Odds are in your favor that you will be just fine. Best wishes.

This is the most commonly experienced colon cancer symptom. As a tumor grows larger, the passage of feces can cause the tumor to bleed. it is common to see blood if the tumor is near the anus, but it is much more common for the blood to be hidden inside the stools.
If you are consistently constipated or have diarrhea, this must be evaluated by a physician. Changes in bowel habits also include gas and producing thinner stools. Thinner stools are usually the result of a tumor obstructing the passage of feces. This is one of the more common colon cancer symptoms.

If the blood is red you are okay for now, that means that it is fresh blood, when it turns brown or a different color you need to worry, that means that it is old blood and you may have some problems. Have you talked to a different doctor about this?I don't want to get into all of your business but if you are gay that may have a lot to do with it.If it is hard togo #2 maybe you should drink some sun sweet prune juice. Blood in stool that might indicate a serious problem is "occult" or hidden blood, usually only visible through a test, or sometimes as black stool.

Likely you have hemorrhoids, and need to eat a higher-fiber diet and exercise regularly.

(Colon cancer doesn't usually "hurt" until very advanced, by which time you'd have all kinds of other symptoms...)

A touch of bright red blood every now and then is usually nothing to worry about. In your case, I would get it checked out for sure. It sounds like you have a little more than usual.

You probably have diverticulitis, but you need to see a dr.

uhm sounds like crones disease. my mom just got diagnosed with it. if you have diarrhea and bad stomach pain you should ask your doctor about it.
