Dr frank?Contraception question?

Which is the SAFEST Birth control method.By safest I mean which ones have the least medical risks for the women who would be taking it? I have heard the pill causes high blood pressure. I would not like condoms they would be irritating? Does sex hurt the first time?

mine, no, it hurt the second which is weird. but everyones different. some dont even hurt at all

if u go to you gp you can pick up contraceptive leaflet which has all the methods, how good they are and the risks
you can then discuss which one will be more suited for you with professional help

The safest birth control method? Not having sex, but it's obviously not realistic and another is only have sex with men who have had vestectomies. Barrier methods such as condoms are safe, but not as effective at preventing pregnancy as hormonal contraceptives or IUD's (which have their own risks).

What you heard that the pill causes high blood pressure is not entirely true. The pill does have risks associated with it such as blood clots that can cause strokes or even heart attacks, but this is rare and besides, pregnancy has this same risk at a much higher rate. Of course, the pill also has good effects such as a reduced risk for ovarian cancer, regular and lighter periods, reduced cramps, reduced acne and over 99% protection from pregnancy.

Of course, it's important to use condoms because they protect from sexually transmitted infections. Unless you are in a monogamous long term relationship and you know your partner is free of STI's (even virgins can have them), it is not safe not to use condoms.

As for sex for the first time, some women do experience pain, although it shouldn't be severe and some may bleed, but that's normal. If you're relaxed, aroused and properly lubricated, it may not hurt very much or at all.

No contraception is 100% fail-proof but the contraceptive pill is about the safest if taken regularly and if other protection is used in cases of diarrhea or taking antibiotics which can lower the effectiveness of the birth control pill. You are also advised to use additional protection during the first pack.
The doctor will decide which contraceptive is best for you personally - or even the clinic sister. They won't give you anything which could be harmful and raise your blood pressure.
Remember that the pill cannot protect one against sexually transmitted diseases, so don't rule out condoms.
Sex the first time does not hurt enough to take away the pleasure, no. There will be a little bleeding, however.

I wasn't going to answer this question but it does actually look like for once lbobeck, your being serious! Sex can be a little painful/uncomfortable the first time around..don't worry too much. In terms of which contraception produces less side effects for the women, of course the answer is condoms; but as you have stated you don't like them..maybe consider the Minni pill..talk to your GP or go to your local family planning centre...remember the only form of contraception to protect you from both pregnancy and std's is the condom..although it doesn't totally protect you from std's.

edit
The IUD is generally not recommended if your nulliparous..the Mirena coil is sometimes suitable.

Do not have sex!
