Sex drive n hormones on contraception injection...please help?

I've been on the contraceptive injection for 11 weeks now (am due for my 2nd dose on on Tues), but my boyfriend and I have noticed that my sex drive which is usually ridiculously high..well is less than non existant which frankly is crap as I'm sure you can understand! :) Also, I've been feeling really depressed and awful about everything.

Has anyone had this whilst on it?
I have tried the pill, both combined and progesterone only, but I can't have oestrogen because of my migranes and the progesterone gave me really bad nausea, tenderness n spotting, also am bad at remembering to take it. But I think if I stayed on it the symptoms may have evened out, and I didn't feel down on it at all...
I feel I'm rambling so will rap this up now :)
Do you think I should carry on with the injection..see how it goes even thought I feel awful, depressed, n very frustrated! :( or try back on the progesterone...
Also implant and coil are not an option!
Please dont say to speak to doctor as am doing this on Tuesday, I jus wanted some personal opinions, esp if you've been on it before.

PLEASE stop taking it - it is awful. I was on it for 5 years and it was the worst 5 years of my life. it led to the break up of my relationship. I suffered from:-
* weight gain (2 stone)
* mood swings
* nil sex drive (so yes - abslultely it is linked to depo)
* increased appetite/desire to sleep
*I don't remember ever feeling happy or being able to have fun during this time

It was only when I came off it that I realised. Everyone asked what diet I had been on as the 2 stone simply melted away woith no effort on my part. This is how much it changes your metabolism. My sex drive returned immediately and I suddenly became me again.

What a waste of a big chunk of my life. My advice: stop sooner rather than later and try something/anything else rather than hormones as there simply isn't enough advice given about it - it is always glossed over when they prescribe it. Otherwise I might have put it down to the injection a lot earlier.

I'd say wait it out.. but no longer then like 4 months coz I had the implant a few yrs ago n had a period everyday for 6 months till the docs finally took it out. but dont wait it out jus coz the doc says or ote... 4 months max i say . xxx

The depo injection had exactly this effect on me, but as i already suffered depressin i didn't realise how much worse it made me.
As a contraceptive it works wonders as everybody i know who has used it has had zero sex drive while on it - kinda hard to get pregnant if you're not having sex!!
Eventually continued use of this affected my marriage to the point of separation. Within a month or two of coming off it i was back to normal, and thankfully back together with my husand.

I would suggest looking into alternative contraception, but good luck with whatever you decide.

The first thing you need to do is figure out why your sex drive is low and try to help get it back. I was in your situation and it's not fun without being horny and feeling in the mood when needed. I also felt like my orgasms (if I would even get one) were really weak. Probably because of my sex drive.

i dont know, im on progesterone only and im surprised i havent been knocked off this planet, forget about have sex, im such a mf-ing moody ***** lol my boobs hurt, im snappy, but i keep taking it cuz im a fool. i dont know if it will even out or i just dont give a sh1t. injection is known to cause depression. i was on it to stop my periods but when it wore off, which took me three years to get my periods back, seriously, omg i seriously tried to jump my male friend, it was very odd. tho it may have been age i turned 30. i think the mini pill is lowering my sex drive or at least my ability to well, you know. anyway, i dont know i think the whole system sucks and whoever invented periods should be nailed to a cross.

i dont know if mini pills symptoms wear off, ive been on it at least a month and am still about to kill someone and have sore breasts. grr.

not sure but i think they give the injections to pedophiles to lower their sex drives but i could be thinking of something else :/
