A question about the pill (contraception), can anyone please enlighten me?

I've just started on the contraceptive pill Yasmin for PCOS (I was on microgynon 30 for some stupid reason, as the original Dr I saw didn't seem to understand what PCOS was *sigh* so my hirsutism and acne hasn't cleared up).

Anyway I've noticed I've been really thirsty and going pee a lot, has anyone else had this on Yasmin (or any other pill)?

It's not a UTI - no pain, no cloudy pee, no stinging and I was tested for diabetes 3 months ago and it was clear, not even pre-diabetic and my diet is healthy.

It's more the excess thirst that worries me though - I assume I'm peeing more because I'm drinking more, but I don't get why I feel so thirsty, I only started taking the pill on Friday so I'm sure it must be linked. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced it with Yasmin or other contraceptive pills.

Also is it true that you lose weight on Yasmin, and have you or anyone you know noticed this?

Thanks for your time! Sorry it's a bit long :o]

My sister has PCOS and being on the pill helped regulate her periods and cleared her skin.

The doctor who put you on Yasmin--was the doctor an obgyn? I would recommend you have an obgyn put you on the proper pill for PCOS, rather than an internist or family doctor. It is odd that your doctor "did not seem to understand what PCOS was".

With PCOS, insulin resistance is a concern. Excess thirst can be a sign of diabetes. When you were tested 3 months ago for diabetes, was it a FASTING test? It's not accurate unless it is a fasting blood sugar test.

The first thing I would suggest is to call the pharmacy who gave you the Yasmin and ask the pharmacist if excessive thirst is listed as a common side effect (or, check your package insert for common side effects). Next, I would call the doctor who prescribed you Yasmin.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
