Has anyone tried the Nuva Ring for contraception?

What's the availability of the ring, how much does it cost? Also, do you have to have certain tests when you go to the doctor to get a prescription for contraception?

Hi, I am on nuva ring and it is wonderful for me. When I went to the doctor, he just performed a pap smear and he prescribed it to me. I have insurance so I only pay $9ea although this month my insurance didn't cover it so I paid $55.57 for 1. They told me that my next refill would be covered by insurance. Thank God. Why don't you go to their web page and read their patient information? Or Dial 1 877 NUVARING. Hope this helps.

You can get it anywhere else you get birth control- OB office, Planned Parent hood etc. It costs about the same as pills without insurance about 30 per month. Otherwise it depends on your copay. When you go to the Dr. (assuming this is your 1st time), they will do a PAP smear (a small sample of the cervix taken out with a small wand. They will also do an internal exam, some docs will also want to perform a pregnancy test and STD tests. I was on the ring for about 3 months, I hated it and went back on the pill. I lost all desire to have sex, plus my partner could feel it rubbing inside when we had sex, which was uncomfortable for him. Also, I had trouble getting it out and I have heard some women actually expel it accidentally while having bowel movements, etc. I went back to The Pill after that.
***However, I have also heard lots of women who LOVE the Nuva Ring, so I guess you never know if it is right for you until you try it. Good luck!

I was on the NuvaRing for about 6 months. I loved it. I didn't have any of the side effects some women complain of. I only switched back to pills because our pharmacy started doing the $9 generic for my pills, and even with insurance the ring was $45 a month for me.

It was so much more convenient though! I loved not having to worry about taking the pill! And I even left it in during sex, and my husband said he couldn't even feel it.

im on nuva ring now and wouldn't change to any other birth control. i don't have a drug plan so i get mine at the sexual health clinic and its only $8 (can) which is a big difference from 35-40 at the drug stores. hope this helps!
