DOES MOVICOL INTERFERE WITH MY 21 DAY PILL CONTRACEPTION? Help!

(birth control pills)

Movicol is a laxative. Taking laxatives can prevent your pill from being absorbed - basically by moving it through you too fast to be effective.

I know a girl who used to take her pill regular as clockwork, but still ended up pregnant as she was drinking a laxative tea to help lose weight.

Use a another form of contraceptive for each day that you use laxatives, (or have vomiting or diarrhea within 4 hours of taking your pill) and continue using backup contraception until you have taken an active tablet each day for at least seven days in a row after that.

No it will not. To be on the safe side take it 3 hours after you take the pill, this will ensure the pill has been absorbed in case you get an upset stomach. Mild upset stomach should not interfere with the pill anyway, but I always er on the side of caution.

Even if you took it at the same time it really would not effect it. Movicol is an inert substance that passes through the gut without being absorbed into the body. It relieves constipation because it causes the water it is taken with to be retained in the bowel instead of being absorbed into the body. This increases the water content and volume of the stools in the bowel, making them softer and easier to pass. So really it will have no effect on the pills efficiency.
