Does emergency contraception have emotional side effects?

Has anyone else experienced weepiness, depression, sadness, or irritability after taking the morning-after pill?

I took it this morning and I've been a MESS all day long.

Emergency contraception is simply a mega-dose of hormones. What you are experiencing is completely normal.

I've never had that problem.

I would assume that it could effect mood seeing how it is basically a concentrated dose of birth control designed to prevent ovulation.

EDIT: To Carl -

EC is not an abortion pill. It will not effect a fertilized egg or harm any existing pregnancy. All it is is progesterone, which means it tries to trick your body into thinking it's pregnant so that it will not release an ovum. If you have already ovulated, and/or are already pregnant it will not do anything.

YES I did. Actually for the day and kinda the next day. I just felt very out of it, I felt weepiness, depression/sadness, and irritability all at the same time! haha it sucked. I think its a side effect from the pill or something because it went away a couple of days after and I know it couldn't have been from the whole situation.

It could be. Those aren't listed on the side effects, but you never know. You are basically taking two doses of hormones- same as given in birth control pills. That is enough to make a womens body go a little nuts. If your symptoms don't go away within a week please call your doctor as it may be something else.

Carl S has proved himself to be a moron! He has posted questions about a pregnant gf who was refusing to abort, later posted again saying they were having the baby! Now saying that she took an abortion pill. He's a troll!

What you're experiencing is completely normal. My friend went through the same thing. Good luck.

My GF had a pill abortion and it was no problem. Did ur abortion make u bleed alot it did to her and she didn't wanna give it up for a while, but I got her to anyway.
