Depression medication help.?

I was put on zoloft for post partum. Then after 3 yrs switched to Lexapro. It never really helped and I started feeling worse so I went on Cymbalta for two weeks and had uncontrollable crying spells. Now I am on Effexor and I dont feel better. Any advice. I hate life and myself right now.

It took 3 months before Prozac actually had a real effect on me, & that was hard, but the past 15 years its worked wonderfully. I know how hard it is to be patient & let time do its job, but try to allow the opportunity for the drugs to do their job. The right drug & the right dose will make a huge difference in your life..

Work with a psychiatrist who specializes in mood disorders. It sounds like you need to move on to a different class of antidepressants. Wellbutrin works on Dopamine and might be worth a shot. There are the tricyclics that work for some who do not respond to SSRI/SNRIs (Zoloft, Lexapro / Cymbalta, Effexor).

Having a lot of antidepressants stop working also is can indicate that the depression is closer to the bipolar spectrum. Doesn't mean it's bipolar, just that it responds to stabilziers. Supplementing an anti-d with Lithium can be very effective. The anticonvulsant Lamictal can be, too, as can be the Lithium/Lamictal combination.

In other words, there are many, many options left. Work with the type of doc that specializes in these meds, and you'll be more apt to find the combo that works for you sooner.

Depression medication does not help in the long term but if you are considering coming out of it you should do it gradually.

Depression happens normally because we have a poor image of our selves. This self hatred contracts the DNA and makes you feel liveless.

To counter act that you can say loving words to yourself and your body so the DNA can expand again. You do not have to believe it but if you can recreate the feeling of love you will feel instant results.

Loving yourself unconditionally is the only way of being totally happy in this life. Have you considered the path of enlightenment?

Diet is also crucial, eliminate all artificial food and eat lots of organic fruit and veg. Consider testing yourself for gluten and lactose intolerance. Lots of people in this country feel depress because of the gluten

Maybe you should try wellbutrin I'm on that and it started working right away. The only gripe I have with it is some of the side effects like feeling a tingling sensation, decreased appetite, and weight loss which aren't that bad to deal with considering the pros that come with the drug. You just have to find the right mixture of medications for them to work basically on a trial and error basis.

I would speak to your doctor and let him/her know it is not working. Wellbutrin XL (300mg) is working wonders for me...but it did take 3-4 weeks to work completely. Everyone I know of has successfully been treated with it. They even go up to 450 mg, if you feel it will work. The good thing about Wellbutrin is that it has low side effects. I feel no different, except for a lot less depression. I am not tired or groggy or anything. And it has also helped me lose 10 pounds. :) Good luck.

I've been on prozac for almost five years and I feel better than I ever have. I tried paxil and it was the worst experience of my life. I'd talk to your psychiatrist or whoever writes your prescriptions. maybe mention prozac. you've tried quite a few, might as well give it a shot. good luck =)

Anti-depression meds. take 3 - 4 weeks before they start to work. It may take up until 2 months before the full effects of the meds occur. I suffer from chronic depression and use effexor. Hang in there, it will get better.

Try SERTRALINE.

Talk with a Psychiatrist.
