Depression & Suicide?

Ok, here's my story.
I've been diagnosed as having dysthymia (constant low mood) for the past 10 years, depressd on&off for a few years, and very severly since abt 2 years. Was feeling suicidal on&off for a few years, very severly and continuously since last year. Attempted it last October, was hospitalized and have been on anti-depressants since then.
Now I dont feel continuously bad as much as I used to. But it comes back periodically, both feelings of depression and suicide. But I want to ask u guys here at Y Answers what u think of the following things that are bugging me,and what u think I should do about them:
1. I still think life has too much of suffering in it and it all would be better if everyone in the world would just kill themselves and ended it all. I dont say it's right fo one person to kill another, but if he/she wants to kill him/herself, why is it not allowed? After all,I'm the person going through the suffering of my life, isnt it?

2. I used to be a very high-achieving student, but since depression started, my performance has fallen drastically. I have failed every exam I attempted for the past few years! Since starting medication & starting to study w some friends, I have started to just pass marginally now. Any advice to improve?
3. I also feel very scared to develop friendships with anyone new now,for the fear of getting hurt. I dont want to go down that sucking path of continually feeling depressed again! But recently,I've noticed I've started to have feelings for 1 of the friends (a guy) I study with. But I dont think he thinks that way of me. Find it a bit hard to cope with this at this stage. I find myself hitting lows when I get hints he might not like me romantically. I know this sounds immature and and unfeministic, but I think maybe I want to be involved with a guy now. Maybe looking for a high feeling and to know someone's there fo me after years of feeling low.

Thank u in advance4all who answr!

First of all, do you believe in god/ a next life? Secondly let me advice you to go to a message board rather thanYahoo answers. There your question gets more answers and more attention.Try ivillage psychology message boards, they have specialists answering depression questions.

and honey,DO NOT killyourself...do not choose a PERMANENT solution to a TEMPORARY problem.....THere is always something around the corner as long as you live. Besides,I don't think that death a relief from pain,it is the beginning of a new unknownphase of your life...and ending your life by committing a sin (killing yourself)won't certainly lead to anything good!

gets, in order to develop spiritually. I think that's not a bad idea to cultivate now. Yes,I wont kill myself. I dont think I really want to,any more. Thanks again to all of u who were concerned. U guys are the best! Report It

Listen, change your religion and convert to Islam. This is the ultimate cure for your condition. I was like you once, but since I converted, my life became happy and excited.

I had your way of thinking, still do sometimes. It is different for everybody. If someone really does want to kill themselves they will, eventually. The reason why it isn't aloud is because life isn't always crap, and things could get better, if you kill yourself, you will never know.

1-Did you ever see a bird kill itself?A cat kill itself?
NO!

You are alive ,You have opertunity for love, advance,Education help others..

If you kill yourself,Then you miss,And society miss you,YOU CAN BE HELPER!

I know this life has very problems<I had many problems in my life,If you check my questions,You will see what I'm talking about.

Look! When you exercise,Your body become strong, going to bed is easier but when you do hard exercise you have strong body,It is like life,You fight with problems and when you look at your behind,You have valuable experience!

I think you should try to forget about having any kind of serious relationship with a guy. That kind of thing isn't for everyone.
Eventually you may find an antidepressant that works well for you. The good ones can help you get better grades but the bad ones stop you from getting work done. I know from experience. Your history with dysthymia may decrease your chance of finding the right antidepressant, but it is stilll possible to improve functioning. You are going the right way to improve academic performance. Keep working.
You should not kill yourself, because there is still a chance that you will improve. Even if you don't, there are still some moments to live for. There have been very successful people with dysthymia. I've had dysthymia, and I am now doing fairly well in college and my personal life is better than ever. I am glad I didn't kill myself. Most people who consider suicide partly want to die and partly hope they get better. Hope usually wins. Recovery is usually worth waiting for.

I suffered depression for many years. We're talking about from my early pre-teens. My parents were poor so I didn't have the advantage of a diagnosis and have not had one to this day.
I recognized it as depression in my early 20's and learned that at certain times it was worse.
When I hit the lows I learned to recognize it for what it was and how to ride it through. I wrote in a journal and for every negative thought I found the positive. I do that now and my lows don't last as long as they used to.
I try not to allow the negative or the desire to give up over power me.
Life, I have found, is precious and too short to feel down all the time. I fight the feelings of despair and come out of the fog of depression with a few new revelations about myself and a new strength to fight it the next time.
I don't try to fool myself into thinking I have beaten depression totally. I just stay aware that when those feelings rise that they will pass when I am ready for them to.
