Depression and anxiety help?

I already know I am depressed and that I have major anxiety. Does this ever disappear on its own? or do I definitely need to talk to a therapist or shrink? I hate feeling sad and depressed all the time. I dont have insurance yet and its really hard. Hopefully i will have insurance soon but what should i do in the meantime? Please help!

wow..I understand completely. You know, I read your first answerer's reply, and I agree with her 100%! She's right on. Probably the best step would be to consult a Dr. Family Dr.s are often less money than an internist or speciality Dr. Many communities also have reduced cost clinics for the uninsured. Take advantage of that, if your community has one. There is no need to suffer like this.
Eating healthy, steering clear of blood sugar highs and lows, and getting exercise can all help and of course that is all basically free.
Best wishes to you!

If what you are suffering from is more than just sadness, actual depression, it is not something that is going to disappear on its own, unfortunately. I suffer from depression and anxiety as well and know how hard it can be. Seeing a doctor is definitely a good idea; you don't necessarily need a psychiatrist (at least not immediately) if you have a good physician. It does cost money, though, and I understand why you would have to wait for insurance. There isn't a lot you can do about it -- a lot of people will tell you to think more positively but I find that bad advice, as it just makes me feel bad about myself because I'm unable to do that. Which is something that goes along with suffering from depression.

Doctors and psychiatrists both recommend exercise, and I actually find it does help. I felt so tired all the time before that I didn't think I had the energy to bother, but after being told by my psychiatrist repeatedly that I should exercise more I finally joined a gym a few months ago (along with a friend that will keep me going). I'm actually enjoying it, and it makes me feel good just to know I'm doing it. I can't say it cures anything, but it does make me feel better in a small way. At this point, it's the only thing I've found that makes a difference, as medication isn't working for me yet.

Good luck, and I wish I had more advice for you!

I'd find the number for your local crisis center and keep it handy, it will give you a "lifeline" if things get out of control on you (I don't necessarily mean like a suicidal lifeline, but the term was all I could come up with). Your problems won't dissapear on their own, you need to work with your doctor and he will help you find the appropriate assistance - whether that is a psychologist or a therapist. It can be very difficult to overcome these issues, and it may flare up even after you think you are "cured". It sucks that you have to wait for insurance - I live in Canada so I can't imagine having that kind of restriction to finding necessary care. Try and get help as soon as you can. I have come through it once and I'm going through it all again, I know how scary it can be. My counsellor always tells me that we need to be our own best mother - nurture yourself, give yourself what you need. If something is causing you anxiety, try and think of why and how you can get around the issue. You are the one who is most intimate with yourself, try to think of yourself as your own child - if your child was having these problems what would you do to help them. I hope you are able to get the help that you need soon, the best of luck to you.

Depression is an illness, just like having the flu is. You'd go to the doctor for the flu, right? Or appendicitis? Or cancer? Having suffered from depression and anxiety for many years, just knowing it was an illness made me feel "better", but not Better. Embrace your inner crazy and get to a doctor already! There really is no need to suffer like you are. Get a good anti-depressant if you need one and start living life! (ewww sounds like a commercial)

no it wont just go away it will get worse if left untreated...you should go see a dr about that
