Depression!!!!!!!!!!!!?

I would like to know what are the consequences of being diagnosed with depression in later life...... can anyone help

I don't believe there are consquences from being diagnosed with depression later in life.

I was diagnosed with depression 11, almost 12 years ago at the tender age of 14. I suffered for years and went through all kinds of medications and doctors, and even hospitals. It was a miserable experience, but today I suffer very little from it. It may be partly because I've grown up and matured since then, it may be because i'm out of the toxic environment I was living in, it may be due to the thearpy, or it may be because I've dealt with it for so long I know what to do when I fall. All I know is that I have it pretty much under control. I haven't been on medication since age 19, because I felt it wasn't helping and it was actually making me feel worse. I continued with therapy up until a few years ago and I felt that it was far more effective than any pill ever was.

Being diagnosed with it later in life doesn't seem like it would be any different than at any other point it life. It probably feels horrible, but it's entirely treatable. Don't give up. Some people use medication. I didn't like it, but perhaps you'd have a different experience. Most importantly, you should get into therapy. Someone who's qualified and has experience dealing with this sort of thing could really help you out.

Also, you have to rely on yourself. When you're feeling down and really bad and you just don't want to get out of bed, you force yourself to get up. You force yourself to get into the shower and you force yourself to leave the house. It can be a very hard thing to accomplish given the circumstances, but it will be beneficial in the long run. You CANNOT wallow it in. It will take over your life. It will eat you alive and make you feel worse. Always know that you're stronger than you think. Reach deep down inside yourself and push through all the bad feelings and take control.

I wish you all the best.

I partially agree with the person who said that working is what makes people happy. I agree in as far as having a sense of purpose makes people happy, but I don't think that plain old "nose to the grindstone" is the answer if that doesn't provide a sense of purpose. I also think that losing ones drive can be a consequence of depression, rather than a cause of it.
A checklist against depression is to make sure that you have good quality and enough:
- food
- sleep
- exercise
- light
- company
- (intellectual stimulation also helps).
I believe that a lot of people who are depressed are actually lonely -- they just don't spend enough time having meaningful interaction with people who they like and know and who, in return, like and know them. Having better friends and more social interaction can help get rid of depression and keep it away.
Unfortunately, if a person is badly depressed, they may not even have the confidence to get out and be sociable.
(I would also like to say that I am not recommending being selfless and doing things for other people when there is no emotional reward for yourself. Giving selflessly when you are already out of emotional juice can just make you feel more lonely and more depressed. It has to be a two way thing where you feel that you are experiencing give and take as equals and that people are really pleased to see YOU and you are really please to see them, rather than that they are a job you are doing as a penance in the hope that it will make you feel better. There has to be some joy in it.)
A good way to avoid getting that badly depressed is to be aware of when you start to get depressed and then go through the "food, sleep, light, exercise, company" checklist and see if you are getting adequate of those. If not, and you make a change, you can often pull yourself out of depression before you fall all the way in.

normally people that are depressed dont have the drive and hardworking abillity of those happier people, they tend to dwell on how bad life is rather than working towards making it better, nad setting themselves for life. Most the time they dont even know whats wrong. but the consequinces are basically falling lower and lower because they dont have it in them, or cant find that that makes them work hard to live life. In general, working is what makes people happy, and if people are sad they need to know why so they can work to fix it.

What do you mean by "the consequences"?
Having depression is not enjoyable but getting a diagnosis can be a good thing as at least you then know what to do about it.
Cognitive behavioral therapy helps against depression.
