Do you find it irritating these relatively normal people that say they have depression ?

or that they want to end there life??
When it turns out they are young people that still have there intelligence and much in their favour?
What about the people that are disabled through depression or mental illness that would love to turn their lifes around and get back to work but struggle with it all because there brain is too scrambled and have trouble functioning to look for work, filling in forms etc.

Ok their not there, pedantic(typed in a hurry)

I find it disconcerting that so many young people want to end their lives. What sort of society are we fostering? I'd hate to be young nowadays.

when you say relatively normal exactly how do you know this, people who have depression or want to end their life sometimes go on as 'normal' just so other people see them as this, they don't want to annoy people by telling them they are depressed or suicidal.
Alot of people are disabled through depression who are genuine.
Have you ever felt like this?

You may not know this but when a young woman has just had a baby they get the 'baby blues' which can turn into depression alot of these women seem 'normal' out of fear that the child will be taken off them, but think what this is doing to them keeping things bottled up and not telling anyone because of this fear.

First of all, it's lives not lifes
The 'their' thing has already been mentioned
How do you classify someone as relatively normal, it annoys me so much when ignorant people who obviously don't have a clue what they're talking about take this stance. If you don't have a question of important substance to ask, then don't put it in mental health. No one asks for depression so get over yourself!

I have had anxiety and depression problems all my life.I put on a good front so people in general don't know how i am really feeling which is pretty **** some days,so yes it does annoy me that some people haven't got a clue what real depression and anxiety is and think they have it 'cos they've had a bad day at the office or the boyfriend has dumped them.If I could turn back the clock I would love to never had these horrible feelings.

I'm classed as disabled through my depression and dissociation, I need a lot of help with it, help with getting out of bed in the morning, help with taking medication, help with shopping etc. I have attempted suicide and the last time was sectioned and kept in hospital. I only get annoyed when people who are just having a bad dy say, "I'm so depressed". True depression can be so debillitating, if they had real depression, they wouldn't want it....it's horrible.

Everything is relative to a persons situation. A teen who doesn't get the grade they want on a test or doesn't get invited to a party may be suicidal but a grown up would not be so bothered by something trivial.

I agree some people deal with terrible issues and remain positive. I sometimes think though that if you hit some of these depressed people with an extreme illness they would actually meet the challenge and fight. Because when you are fighting you have less time to think about being depressed.

Depression is a nasty illness. I've lived with it for 17 years and it all started when I was 13. So to say that young people have no right to say they are depressed is not all that fair. Many are, because it is tough being a teenager. Yes, they maybe young, but that does not make the depression anymore easy to cope with.

Depression IS a mental illness. You cannot always tell who has it and who hasn't. Some people are able to maintain a reasonable level of functioning yet still be hurting very badly inside. Often people like this are at the highest risk, because other people, like you, assume they are just 'attention seeking' or being over dramatic.

Depression is an illness like any other...there is no such thing as relatively normal...you are either normal or not......so there are various degrees of depression which affect people in different ways, and need different treatment regimes....so no I don't find it irritating....

Attention seekers piss me off, but remember, everyone deals with issues differantly. Not getting into the perfect school whouldn't bother me, but it could be a huge drama for some. It's all about perspective.

mmmh...loads of emo/scene whatever girls at my school think its fashionable to a)be bisexual,b)smoke, take drugs c)be 'depressed' and cut your arms,be an attention seeker...

quite sad really.

There is no such thing as "normal", depression can hit anyone.
I find it really irritating when people abuse the English language.
"Their", please.

Their life. Their. I find ignorance irritating.

no Depression is on top of this world,Its the number 1 disease(I am being sarcastic)

keep in mind that some people are just better actors than others. Many of the greatest minds in the world have suffered severe depression.

God yeah, sometimes it just makes me so depressed.

Absolutely!

A lot of young people do suffer from depression

Im 17

Im depressed

Like genuine lol - they wanted to put me on anti-d's

I have CBT to make me tihnk more positively

Im MEANT to be intelligent...umm yeh lol

I have a loving mum

On the outside, everything looks hunky dory

but

my childhood was absolutely crappy - like awful - but no one knows (except one great friends) this so no one gets why i get so sad sometimes..ok..try often.

bascially, ye it annoys me when people make out their depressed cos theyve got too many exams, or they got dumped or whatever, but many people are depressed and need help, and you might not see the reason why cos it's private.

It annoys me when people who like to think theyre hard core emo cut their arms for no reason. it makes the genuine depressives look bad.

at the end of the day, its an illness with its roots. in my case, the roots are private and many other people - ok the majority- also keep the reasons from the public eye.

just cos you cant see a reason, doesnt mean its not there.

depession can be a very serious illness, its like any other health problem, example, sum1 wid a heart problem or cancer, no1 wud take da mick out of dat, so depression is also an illness which is misjudged by alot ppl coz of da lack of knowledge in it and da fact dat u cant actually see depression or the effect that it has on a person.
and no i dont think that ppl who suffer from depression r acting coz my sis has got depression for 15 yrs now and shes still on medication so how can a person b acting for 15yrs?
u obivously aint gota clue wot ur talkin abt, u need 2 do sum serious research b4 blabbin nthin, coz ur talkin thru ur backside
