Does depression cause diarrhea?

I have recently been diagnosed (by a psychologist) with depression.

-I haven't been put on medicine yet (I have an appointment set up), so medicine isn't the problem.
-It may also be because of anxiety, because I recently stopped cutting myself.
-The depression has made me lose my appetite also, so is it possible that not eating enough is giving me the diarrhea?

I know this is a kind of a gross and personal question, but I need to know. Please help.

Yes, you can get diarrhoea when you are clinically depressed. Your digestive system gets very unbalanced and unsettled and cause both constipation and diarrhoea. I expect this will eventually subside when you have some medication to help with your depression, , take care...

Depression has been known to cause bowel upsets. When a change in the body occurs such as depression it can also affect the bodies organs such as the liver, kidneys, etc.

I wouldn't be too concerned at the moment, but certainly mention this to the specialist on your appointment.

This will clear up in time, and unless it is causing real problems, then don't worry.

I doubt the depression itself would case the diarrhea, it would probably be more likely the stress and anxiety you're going through.

It's good you've stopped cutting!!

The doctor will possibly put you on some antidepressants, and between that and the counseling you'll be as good as new before you know it!!

Best of Luck!!
Paul.

it could just be a tummy bug.

i was diagnosed with depression two years ago and was prescribved prozac but never took it.

im so glad i didnt. i got better naturally with the help of friends and family but i realise that cant happen for everyone.

best of luck and know what everything will get better.

Any sort of mental stress or mental problem can manifest itself as physical ailments, and it effects your body. You can have physical symptoms from just being stressed/depressed/anxious.

It's possible that the depression itself can be giving you diarrhea. Maybe you being upset causes your stomach to be upset.

Not sure, but that's my guess.

In the past anxiety has caused me to have diarrhea.
If the diarrhea does not go away or if it keeps coming back, see your primary care doctor. Good Luck.

more than likely it's from the anxiety. it might also cause u to feel nauseous. it's just u're body's way of handling too much stress & also to tell u there's something wrong.

It's the anxiety, not the depression.
