Why is depression bad that we have to treat it?

Why is depression bad that we have to treat it?

for a while i did not get mine treated because i did not want to be on a medication for years.....but within the past few years it had gotten so bad that my mind just had gotten out o control...i could not think straight, i could not function and take care of my son...he would ask me to play with him and all i could do was go to bed and sleep....

i had other underlying issues....i was a navy veteran and was dealing with post traumatic stress disorder and never sought treatment for it because i thought that it would just go away...i was sadly mistaken....a time went on, it just brewed inside of me until one day it took over me and it felt like my life just spinned out of control

i went to a psychiatrist and was treated for depression and ptsd....here it is 1.5 years later and i feel somewhat normal, i can function again, i can play with my son and enjoy doing it....i feel bad that i wasnt a better mother to him but i do know that it was not my fault, it was something that i experienced while in the military that had caused the depression to deepen....

depression should be treated at certain points because it can lead to people like me, i was on the verge of a breakdown or even worse, suicide because i could not control my thoughts, actions or how i felt....

Depression, and other mental disorders, are dysfunctional because they impair one's life so they cannot function normally. Depression can interfere with productivity and one's ability to carry a normal life. Depression is not simply being down in the dumps. It can affect one's ability to hold a job. Weight changes and sleep disorders associated with it can be detrimental to one's physical health. Depression also may also be associated with suicide and other dangerous behaviors which may not only affect the depressed person but other innocent people. There was a notorious case of a woman with depression who killed her own children by drowning them in a bath tub. Had her depression been treated those children would be alive today.

I don't treat mine... but I have a seasonal depression thing...
At spring time I get really sad and I start having panic attacks, I just take xanax and wait for summer!

I won't take any other meds cause they make me worse!!!!!1
