My daughter is going thru depression but won't get on medicine, what can I do to help? She's been on some |
before and did great. But she thinks she should be able to deal with things without them, she is 27. When you say your daughter thinks she "should be able to deal with things on her own" do you mean she sees herself as a failure if she cannot go it alone, or does she mean the depression is light enough she can handle it now and soon will no longer feel depressed? There is a big difference, of course. I know where your daughter is coming from. I'm on meds for depression and anxiety. I started taking meds in 05 and stop taking them in 07 and now I'm back on them. I didn't want to be on medication mainly because the medicine made me gain weight, and I don't have health insurance so it was costing 100 bucks a month for my little pills. My parents said that I need to be on medication but I don't want to be. And my parents pay for my medication, but I feel guilty about the money. Those are the reasons why I didn't and still don't want to be on meds. I just don't want to burden my parents with the money issue and I don't want to have to be dependent on meds. It's a tough one! I suffer from anxiety and have since I was 12 I am now 25. I don't like meds because they make me sleepy and feel not myself. Basic things really help me like exercising everyday, lots of lovely long hot showers, keeping my room tidy and organised so it's my sanctuary and eating well- lots of veges etc. There are lots of mental exercises that you can do to help, the net is full of them, regular counselling is important too. When it gets bad as it still does sometimes there are lots of herbal alternatives such as Saint Johns wart, regular vitamin B and Rhodiola. well just ask her if she preferes to be deppressed, or not if she dont bother just leave her be, the tablets help a great deal but shes got to help herself with them and carry on taking them as every day life, tc and good luck x have her backeracted that should help they can help and show her that she needs meds |
