Lots of trouble sleeping, freq. mild headaches, over eating, and very sad at times. Could it be depression?

I am never sleepy at night but always sleepy throughout the day. I get headaches at least 3 times a week. Especially when I get stressed, frustrated, or uncomfortable in any way. Since I can't sleep at night I end up getting bored and eat too much. Plus, when I am alone I just feel really crappy! Like nothing is right and nothing will ever be right. I also get very irritable about small things that don't matter... I am getting a little worried. Any suggestions?

Depression symptoms can vary greatly because different people experience depression in different ways. A 25-year-old man with depression may not have the same symptoms as a 70-year-old man, for instance. For some people, depression symptoms are so severe that it's obvious something isn't right. Others may feel generally miserable or unhappy without really knowing why.

Numerous treatments for depression are available. Standard depression treatment options include:

Medications
Psychotherapy
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)
Emerging and less-studied treatments for depression include:

Brain stimulation
Complementary and alternative treatments
In some cases, your primary care doctor can treat your depression. In other cases, you may benefit from treatment with a qualified mental health provider, such as a psychiatrist, psychologist or social worker.

Try to be an active participant in your depression treatment. Working together, you and your doctor or therapist can decide which treatment options may be best for your situation, depending on your symptoms and their severity, your personal preferences, insurance coverage, affordability, treatment side effects and other factors. In some cases, though, depression is so severe that a doctor, loved one or guardian may need to guide your care until you're well enough to participate in decision making.

Consult your doctor asap.

it sounds like you have a little depression, but the good thing is that everyone gets that way every one in a while i wouldnt check myself in anywhere if i were you (unless you start feeling suicidal). It is human nature to feel down when you are alone, try to surround yourself with people or o somewhere where there are new people around (like a mall). Writing a list of things that truely make you happy like your family or your pets or buying shoes....look at the list if you feel crappy, it should boot your spirits a bit. its good that you recognize that this isnt your normal behavior now you can work on reversing it.

It sounds as if you are suffering from a mild depression, but I am by no means qualified to diagnose you. If these issues are interfering with your job, school or social life then you need to go and speak with your doctor.

Good luck!

Absolutely sounds like depression. Can be easily helped with meds and you need to call your physician before it gets worse. The longer it goes on, the harder it is to fix. Do not delay!
