Is depression more nature or nurture? Do you think?

one can be predisposed to depression because of hereditary traits? Or is it more life experiences or trauma that is more likely to cause depression?

That's a good question. It can be caused by both. Also, an event can spark depression and set your chemistry off track, and then it becomes a physical issue that may need medication, so it can be a combination.

It's a little of both. Biologically and chemically, some are more predisposed to depression than others- such as those with a family history of depression or other mental illnesses. However, not everyone with depression has it because of their biology, and this is where we see life experiences factor in. Additionally, the term depression is highly overused by the average layperson today as a reference for a feeling of sadness. Just because a person is sad, does not make them depressed.

Both. It runs in some families. It can be caused by early life trauma. I'm talking the serious chronic or reoccuring types of depression, not the regular kind or even situational depression. That said, most depression is situational depression. A situation leads to depression partly because of inadequate coping skills quite often. Therapy is a good option, but many ppl just go for the pills.

I think both. You could have a perfectly trauma-less life and still get it, or could have a very trauma-ful life and be fine and well adjusted with no issues.
There is evidence of it being hereditary, which I believe can play a part of it as far as being predisposed and such.

ii thiink that depressiion iis a siign of lonelii ness or self neglect although some people do iit for attentiion,
drugs are not the answer for most people ii thiink iit would be alot healthiier for a person to deal wiith the problems and learn to love themselves the way they are.
iif thiis person thiinks that they are all alone and no 1 liikes them they are wrong there iis always a person there to guiide you through your problems and self confliict, all iit takes iit a biit of self control.

I think it's both also.

Just because it doesn't really run in your family doesn't mean that you don't have it. Just because you have a little sadness here and there doesn't mean you're full fledged depressed.

I would say go to a psych but I've been hearing lately that medication doesn't work.

It is nurture into truth.

Depression is the result of a direct view of reality as it truly is without the mind being confined to specific pleasurable stimuli.
