I have struggled with depression all my life. I feel like I will NEVER escape. Is it possible to outgrow it? I've had it for about 20 years, and feel like i will have it the rest of my life. No, i don't think you can outgrow it. I just try to take life one day at a time. I have good days and bad days, i enjoy the good days, and just try to get through the bad ones. Unless you have it, it's hard for people to understand what it's like. Hugs :-) Therapy. If you've tried therapy, was it with a therapist you felt was competent, trusted, and opened up to? If not, find one who is. If so, therapy and meds. If you've done that, then therapy and a psychiatrist who specializes in mood disorders. There are many medications for depression, but for some it takes an expert with the knowledge to go beyond the most popular ones. I don't think you can just outgrow depression without taking action. I struggle with it too. Sometimes I feel so low that I don't think I can go on. I just focus on the positives in my life while I pull through the hard times. If you feel you need help with this i suggest talking to a mental health professional. I don't think you can grow out of depression, I could be wrong, but here are some suggestions, because I too struggle. You will never be able to outgrow it but you can learn to live with it. It takes a lot of work and you will need to try new things that might make you feel a little nervous at first but it's meant to help you. Talk to you doctor about all of this and they will offer you the best solution for you. Good luck! Depression is a powerful thing. ive dealt with depression at points, and you just have to talk to someone about what you are going through. talk to a friend, parent, or adult. if you don't want to talk to any of them, just email me, i might be able to help. try any of them ok. Yes you can outgrow it not in the sense as you grow older it will go but if you can grow as a person learn to understand yourself & your thoughts better it may still be their but not dominate your life in such a disabling way. |
