Can you tell if you have depression?


if you think you have depression are you wrong, because if your really depressed you don't think anythings wrong? i don't know.

I had this same thought and problem myself. I thought I was depressed, then thought that maybe I was just thinking that because I was overdramatic and attention seeking. I thought the people with "real problems" were the ones who were keeping quiet like nothing was wrong... and in a way that was me. It turned out I was suffering some form of depression... in the end I just wanted to kill myself and turned to a counsellor fast.

I think people who are suffering from very bad depression do know that something is wrong but don't know how to handle it because they often aren't thinking completely rationally.

Mind you, my counsellor pointed something out to me. He said "Whether you have significant depression or the ordinary angst of teenage years doesn't really matter in this regard. In the end it's more about how you challenge those ideas that drag you down".

I think the point is that if you are feeling bad enough that you think you have depression, then you need to do something about the way you feel. Whether or not it actually is (technically) depression is irrelevent.

It's part of life. There will be days or moments when you feel hopeless and nothing is going right. The good thing is, you always recover from it. A person who doesn't recover from it normally, is someone who has mental issues. Such a person might have bipolar disorder. Another thing that can lead to depression is not knowing God, Jesus Christ. If a person doesn't have anywhere good to go to after they die, and they know it, they will get depressed. It's a natural feeling. Don't stay depressed. It's a choice.

Someone once told me that there is no such thing as negative. Everything is positive. You learn from what you call a "negative experience" by not letting it happen again. Then from lessons you've learned, it becomes a positive.

Crying all the time?
can't be bothered to do anything?
losing/gaining weight?
don't get enjoyment out of things you used to?
Sleeping more/less?

these are a few of the symptoms of depression.

But if you don't feel the same as you used to feel and don't know why (or even if you do know why) get straight round to the doctors or at least talk to someone.

Depression is an illness and can be treated (no, antidepressants aren't like they used to be, they wont make you feel happy, but what they do is encourage your body to replace some of the chemicals that are missing in your brain) If you need the tablets then you need them. if you haven't got any iron in your body you replace it, by diet or tablets, chemicals in the brain, same thing.

Don't be embarrassed, it happens to a lot of people

some people can tell if they have depression others cant some can be in denial others could have accepted it. and then if theyve accepted it then its not certain that they want to get help some do some dont some just want to be left alone to die others want to feel happy again. it all depends on the person. depression is an unbearable sadness lasting for at least 2weeks.
if you feel like you have depression then go get help its the best thing you can do to be happy again.

Yes ,you are the only one that can tell. I have been suffering with some kind of depression myself and struggling with an ED, anyways, i thought the same as you and is some sort of way i felt the same as you. I just think you should get some help. its good you are conscious that thers something wrong going on otherwise u d be insane...but now you should talk to some psychologist or professional about it.

Don't isolate yourself , learn to spell (icelate) yourself someone wrote , you feel tired , bored. low self -esteem, you never want to go anywhere or do anything, suicidal thoughts may enter your mind even though you have no plans of doing this. Loss of appetite,lonely self destructive actions, talk to someone in the medical field ASAP before it's too late ....Please

depressionc can manifiest its self in many forms.one can feel very low, tierd not sleep etc.or they can show lots of physical signs which mask it.whenever you dont feel like your usual self .ie low,crying etc.it maybe is best to seek help, as depression can be treated.good dr can spot it,as can oneslve sometimes

No, if you have Bipolar disorder you usually think there is nothing wrong, I have suffered from depression, serious, serious depression and I knew something was up, but that just made me more depressed.
