I suffer from anxiety but i don't think i have depression. Is this normal? |
I suffer from anxiety and my doctor persists in telling me that i have depression. But i REALLY dont think i do!! My doctor thinks i am in denial. I was just wondering if it is common for people to be in denial for this kind of situation. many thanx!!! No, I think you're right. Anxiety is a whole different thing from depression. If you have a lot of constant anxiety, though, I would read up on Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and mention it to your doc next time you see him. Also, try to stress out less, plan your day, drink lots of water and eat healthily, and remember to breathe to try and reduce that anxiety! Denial is normal. If you have been prescribed depression meds, give them about 3 or 5 weeks to work and see if there is a difference in your anxiety levels. The usual prescription for anxiety is xannax or another benzodiazaprine. Paxil or Welbutrin are others prescribed for anxiety and depression. I don't know much about depression, but I also have anxiety. When I was younger I went through a really anxious period and I spent my days at school with the school councelor and even went to a private councelor. After going to my doctor, she prescribed me medication, which helped. What I do to relieve my stress is i take this relaxation medicine called Absolute Calm. It's good for every day stress, doesnt require a prescription, and isn't anything real strong like Xanax. It helps me calm down and unwind if ive had a stressful day or just feel like it. You should try it out. here's a link: hey! i understand you! i've been sooo bothered by that lately too. i have seen 2 psych already and they said that im depressed. but for me honestly i feel like im not! now im confused if im just denying it or i really am not depressed. if you feel like talking we can share probs w/ each other! if you just like:) I have anxiety and depression and have been on medication for it. Usually depression and anxiety go hand in hand. You might be unique, I really don't know. Good Luck. Go to a different doctor. I have anxiety too, but I am a very happy person. |
