Have you ever had a situation with someone you know who has depression, but thinks they can control it and?

won't see a doctor or therapist? How did you handle it.?

Yes My Dad, and he drives us all crazy b/c he thinks there is nothing wrong with him. How to handle it Idk really they are ultimately responsible for their own mental health and we can only do so much. Luv them and straight out tell them their is nothing wrong with getting help, although that hasn't worked for my Dad. B/C there is nothing wrong with him. I guess there is still that stigma if you see a Psych doc Your Crazy. My SIL did the same she had every reason to be depressed and her doc refereed her and was ranting to me, as I told and listed the things that she had to be depressed about ( that anyone would be) again I hear "I'm not crazy" no one said you where etc. She never got help and has now isolated herself from her whole family ??? Good question and I would like to see the answers But try not to get suck in as hard as it is not to and then you get depressed. Good Luck

I have had depression all my life. I have been on medication for over 16 years and I have tried to ignore the doctors many times and almost killed myself the last time I stopped taking my medications.
Unfortunately you can't do anything to make some one get help. They have to want it. In the mean time find help for you somewhere. Support is out there but you have to look for it. Blessings

yes i had a friend who did this.. she was so depressed and acted like she wasnt and was fine didnt need meds or need to talk to anyone. i eventually got fed up with it and had a serious talk with her and told her shes depressed and needed help and that i would do whatever she wanted me to and be with through it all and that it was for her best. try to talk to them.

My older brother had this problem. You have to talk to them like have a really really serious talk. Tell them that they are not fine and they need to go see a doctor before they do something stupid like start cutting themselves.

How about this, I have depression (among other mental illnesses) and my therapist thinks it can be controlled by changing thought patterns and getting off medication, I'm thinking of changing therapists.
