Depression associated with people and places?

Can one's depression return when going back to deal with people and places one had bad experiences with?

Thanks for the answers! It has been helpful. :) Well, I spent three days somewhere from home and I felt truly great. Then I returned here, and had a pretty low mood, headaches and low self-confidence. Probably it has something to do with monotonousness and noise around here. Got to get out from here, for sure.

Of course it can. Many times people will experience a trauma that may bring on temporary mental illness. It could be the death of a close loved one, a car accident, a miscarriage etc. Does this mean that you are seriously mentally ill? No. It means that you experienced something traumatic. Some people think that you deal with something traumatic and you get over it, but you may have to revisit this issue several times in your life. Depression can be like a weed in your mind and pop up over and over again. Just prepare yourself to deal with and eventually it will get easier.

not if you consciously decide it wont. be strong!
