Can a person recieve Social Security for Depression?

If so how severe would it have to be?

Yes,I do,but I also have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and asthma, but I have had severe depression and anxiety for years, and nothing seems to help it. I know a lot of people who get Disability Social Security for a number of health problems, chief among them, depression.

Social security is available only to people who have contributed to it and have reached the age of 57 at least. The exception is if you are a minor whose parent has died. Then, you are entitled to receive social security benefits.

You may be getting SS confused with disability insurance. Each state is different. Consult the dept. of labor for the area in which you live to find out if you are eligible to receive these benefits.

if you have a problem with your daily life doing your daily activities doing your job associating with others unable to do almost what is considered whatever you should be able to do then yes you can collect - with your doctors notes and social security doctors

it would have to be servere i would imagine as over here in Australia i had to have assessment done to determine weather i should recieve a disability pension and i was successful in the pension but its only cause i have mental illness...:)

If is it truly disabling and can't be treated to the point of your being healthy enough to work. You'd need a psychiatrist to back you up.

Only your Dr. can answer this question. But I would think you would have to be suffering from Major Depression. Bad enough to keep you from being able to work even with medications.

prolley pretty severe... i wuld guess... my friend's SIS gets a monthly ssi or whatever check.... but she pretty bad... her condition.....
