Would a middle school counselor help you with depression? |
I have depression for 3 years. i have a really strong feeling that i need professional help. Cuz i talk to my family about my problems they just really dont care and sometime my sister would use it against me, in an argument or snitch on me. There is no time in my day to go to a theripist, if i do my family would call me crazy, or mentaly retarded, and it would cost alot of money. would a school counselor help me? cuz i need to talk to someone secretly. thanks. They will most likely help to a limit. Unless it is to bad that they feel you need real professional help. The counselor may be a place to start. They are not trained to do therapy, but they can listen. They may also be able to recommend a way to find help. Perhaps there are clinics or therapists that work with you school system. I myself have been to my middle school counselor many times, and I can personally tell you that it helps. I've never been depressed, but occasionally, I feel down or that nothing is right in my life. But after a talk with her, i feel better. When I start talking to her, i feel that I can just let go and say everything I want, all my opinions, all of my feelings, and I know that it is all safe with her. It may not sound like a lot, but venting helps you feel a LOT better. If you feel you can't go to your Mom or Dad, definitely go to your counselor. Some schools actualy have "crisis counselors" depending on the school. Please don't give up. Depression is an illness and it can be helped with medications and therapy. I think it's great that you recognize that there's something wrong and you want to address it. Good luck to you. School counselor's are good to talk to about problems, but nowadays the schools keep them busy with other things like school scheduling, paperwork, and discipline issues. What I'm saying is yes they are good for talking, but they may not be able to talk for as long as you need to or whenever you need to. school cousilors helped me sometimes....it depends WHO they are and how serious they take their job. Definitely start with the counselor if this person is someone you can relate to. Counselors are good to talk things out but you may need medication also you will need to see your MD also. school counselors do have degrees- they are a good place top start with - that may be all you may need - if they feel you need more they can refer you out to others on the outside of the school system yes but its not as confidential as you think at all. its up to you. |
