Has anyone got any tips on how to handle depression?

I already see a therapist and a psychiatrist for it and am on prozac.

Have you asked your therapist for some coping skills? There are a lot of various coping skills that can help.

A few that help me out: 1) try to say 5 positive things about yourself every day -- even if you don't believe them -- and write them down and post them where you will see them; 2) I, also, use positive affirmation cards that you can buy at most bookstores -- some of the best sets for me are by Louise Hay, SARK and a deck called Healing with the Fairies by Doreen Virtue, PhD; 3) use relaxation techniques -- deep breathing, meditation, guided meditation CDs; 4) try walking and/or other types of exercise -- it releases serotonin and other endorphins. I'm sure there are others, but these are all I can think of at this point. Your therapist can probably give you more ideas that will help you out, as well.

Good luck!
Michelle

There are loads of things to do to help deal with depression.
Whether they work or not is down to the individual. It surprises me that you ask us for advice on here for tips to deal with depression(when you dismiss people expressing their views
as having little value to say).
I would suggest you consult your doctor or another qualified mental health proffessional for advice as the majority of us on here arent trained in dealing with depression and mental health issues and can only speak from personal experience.

I am on prozac also. I found that after taking prozac for about a week, that i enjoyed being with friends a little bit more. I keep thinking about random things so I don't have to think about why I got depressed. Try to get out in the sun, like many people have said, exercise helps too. People care, talk to a close friend, let them know what is happening. Just talking helps, so it is good that you are talking to professionals too. Depression hurts, and that is why you are going in the right direction right now. Keeping talking, and keep taking your medicine. You'll probably feel okay if you keep that up. Good luck.

Constantly ask yourself what would make you happy, then think about how would you be able to achieve it...and then do it.
I know you won't be able to do things like going on a huge shopping spree, but you've got to learn to apreciate the little things in life.
I get into holes of depression and I find the more I do for myself and the better I treat myself the more positive I feel.

Take advice from people that are trying to help see the doctor dont miss your medication try to avoid alcohol (this was hard for me lol) Try to distract yourself from the dark feelings take walks clear your mind join a sports club i know its hard but if you give it a 100% effort you will beat it believe me i found it hard at first but it is how i conqured it! Good luck and dont forget your not the only one so dont be ashamed!!!!

you seem to be on the right track i for one am a spirtual person so i pray a lot. there are lots of ways to handle depression can you talk with someone you really need to find the source that is causing the depression and take steps to get rid of it by either setting goals to rid it from your life.

Exercise is proven to help depression. Other things that can help are regular sleep, proper nutrition, being in the sun (don't get burnt), social activity... Journaling helps me sometimes. Talking about it seems to help. Doing math also seems to help.

have you gone to a therapist or talked to anyone close to you about it ?

1.) talk to someone and have someone about you trust listen to you.
