How do I get meds and tell my parents I have depression?

My parents wouldn't believe me if I told them I had depression and they would think I was making it up and is it awkward or weird telling your doctor that you have depression?

Also what meds can you even get as a 14 year old girl with mild depression?

Lexapro

People under the age of 18 should be careful about using antidepressants, as most of them have only been tested on adults.

If you have *mild* depression (i.e. aren't going to kill yourself in the next 20 minutes), I recommend simply talking to a therapist, instead of going through the hassle of medications. (Because, trust me, it's the biggest hassle in the world, and it takes yeaaaars to get it right.)

Besides that, just *tell* them. It's not weird to get help.

Listen to what she said.

Take counseling or seek others who can give you a better answer, a different perspective and opinion to your problem. If you find the right school counselor, they'll be able to answer most of your queries, and the fact that you said it's only "mild depression," means that you can probably still handle it on your own with little help.

Seek out answers and face your problems head on, and talking with a counselor would greatly help. Or sometimes, school's have peer counseling, where you can talk with another person your age anonymously.

Medication will not solve the real problem in the end, it has the potential to do even worse for you. There is no better answer than to have someone listen to your personal troubles and have them give you whole hearted advice and suggestions. Don't be afraid to seek help, it'll be better in the end, I promise.

You need to talk to someone about your depression. It could be your mom, a guidance counselor, or even one of those help lines. Depression is a normal part of life and it is best to try to work it out through counseling. Meds are the last resort when all else has failed.

You may need to seek the advice of more than one person. If the person you are talking to can't relate, they won't give any advice of value. My first choice if I were you would be your mom. She was 14 once too, you know, and probably had depression during her teens.

Unless you are suffering from severe depression, no doctor is going to give you meds without putting you under constant observation. The ones on the market cause too many teen suicides.

tafil is available for your age range. im 15 and my doctor prescribed tafil, its made by pfizer or something. it reduces stress, anxiety, and treats anxiety as well. if you dont want to tell them you have depression maybe you can lie to them and say you are just under alot of stress and get that

Provide them with something in writing, a brochure, a print out from the internet, etc. Then explain to them that all these sign and symptoms are present in you and want to see Dr about it. There are a handful of drugs that mild depression can be treated with.

Enjoy your life and dont worry so much jezzzzzz your only 14? you dont have any job to worry or kids to feed. meet new friends or join a club do.exercise and eat healthy.

It is not awkward to tell a doc that you could be having depression . Consult your parents and tell them you need to meet a GP ....
