How does someone diagnose someone with manic depression?

Like Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Sting these people seem perfectly normal, how does someone actually know they have a mental disorder?

Manic depression is diagnosed by a mental health professional after an evaluation.

When you hear about famous people with mental disorders it's usually because they themselves, have admitted to being diagnosed. You can't really diagnose someone with manic depression if you're not a professional and haven't personally met them.

It's not like having a mental disorder makes you a complete mess all the time. You probably have classmates or work friends who have all manner of problems - depression, bipolar, maybe even schizophrenia. I have severe depression, paranoid delusions, and panic attacks. You'd never know unless you were really close to me.

Mental disorders are just that - mental. Most of the symptoms take place inside your own head.

You really cant tell if someone is diagnosed with manic depression by looking at them the only way to actually know that they have a mental disorder you would have to hear it from them. Many people suffer from this disorder and live normal lives. You have to be evaluated by a mental heath professional who do a series of test and blood work to determine what to diagnois you with.
