What are the best medications for depression? |
I'm a male 39 y/oId that needs something to help me be more upbeat and less irritable. I need to stop getting upset about all the little details in my relationship and life in general. Oh! if it were that easy :) The medications are very individual and those that work for some do not work at all for others. It is kind of a hit and miss kind of thing. You may hit it right on the head with the first anti-depressant you try or you may have to try many. I personally like prozac but as soon as I post this you will see how this drug drove others to the brink. I have nothing good to say about zoloft, paxil, or effexor but you will hear from many who do. That will let you know that only you and your doctor will be able to decide which one is best for you. Sorry...I wish I could just give you the cure. For many people simply therapy can help with the kind of issues you are describing. Antidepressants are really only for severe cases, and unlike many believe, are NOT magic "happy pills". They take up to 6 weeks to work and that's WITH talk therapy. If you do see a therapist and get diagnosed with depression and are prescribed an antidepressant, your therapist will decide what is best for you. No one antidepressant is best for everyone. I know for me, we had to try several to find one that worked and when we did, I still had to work really hard, but today I am off antidepressants and doing fine. Before you jump the gun and diagnose yourself for depression, you should go to a psychiatrist. They can try and help you with the stress you're going through, help your irritability, and give you a perscription for anti-depressants if that is what you really need. All medicines work differently for different people. And anti depressants are to fix malfuctions in the brain that cause depression. Wont do much if you dont have that problem to fix. If only you could take a medication to make it all better but you can't. Antidepressants work different for all people. But anti's are just half of it you also need couseling to help with the other half. Ask your doc. and if it doesnt not help try going to a specialist or some other expert. Remember that taking wrong medications without the proper adivce from an expert CAN cause very serious harm to you and may even worsen your condition. Try going for therapy, etc. =) you need to go see a doctor for him to pescribe a some medicine, because you can't get depression medicine without it.lithium is an anti depressant..but most importanly, you need to pray to your God, to clear your heart and soul. Prayer. I will not recommend medication because they do more harm then good.I can however recommend a natural and permanent cure for your depression. |
