Would I die if a drank alcohol and took my depression and anxiety meds? |
I'm on 60 mgs of paxil and 50 mgs of seroquel. I like to drink on special occasions and today is my sister's birthday. Do you think I'll get sick or even die if I took my meds tonight? I'm planning on drinking maybe 4 or 5 beers and I won't take my meds until maybe after 3 hours after I'm done drinking. Will I be ok? Thanks. Both of those are central nervous system depressants, so if you take alcohol it can further depress your cns.You go into respiratory depression, shock, or coma...so yes you could die. Did you know that alcohol itself is an extremely potent depressant? You certainly don't want to feel more depressed! The use of alcohol and drugs can complicate the diagnosis and treatment of a depressive illness. Many depressive conditions are associated with the excessive use of alcohol and some drugs. Using drugs or alcohol can increase the risk of dangerous behaviors including suicide or cause complicated interactions with your prescribed medication. In sum, alcohol or drug use can reduce the effectiveness of your treatment, prolong your illness, and increase the risk of negative medication side effects. It would not be a good idea to drink when you are taking meds for depression or anxiety. You can ask you doctor but I would advise against drinking. You don't have to drink to have a good time and you'll be able to remember what you did or said and not be embarrassed. If you haven't drank in a long time, it would only take a little beer to get you drunk. Don't ruin your life or health by drinking when you are on meds. Think of it this way: if you drink 4 or 5 beers, you may end up more depressed or have more anxiety attacks when you get sober. Pills and alcohol do not mix. You can see what it did to a lot of stars! I would be VERY careful when mixing prescription drugs and alcohol, YES it can make you very ill, and YES it can kill you. I wouldn't personally recommend drinking that many beers while on your meds, sorry. Unless you decide to not take the meds, don't drink alcohol. it could cost you your life. You may want to research on webmd.com these warnings of taking medications with alcohol consumption. I don't think its a good idea but that that's just me. I am just extra careful when mixing two entirely different drugs, as alcohol is also a drug and how it affects one person may entirely do something different to another. Really, just be careful everything is such a choice..........................may be not always the best kind no. I'm on anxiety meds and I've been fine. just don't drive or operate machinery;) |
