How do you tell the difference between empathy and your own depression?

I know i am empathetic, and also clairvoyant

is it possible to suck in bad energy from your neighbor, i seem to get more depressed if i stay at home

this may sound crazy but i'm being honest

We can't always get along with everybody.
Some people are easier to like than others.
It sounds like you and your neighbor do not hit it off.
If you stay home don't let your neighbor come in your house.

I also get depressed more easily if I stay at home, but I think that's because when I stay at home I am not out doing things that can change my perspective. A new perspective is needed every so often to avoid getting wrapped up in thoughts of your own worries and concerns.

I'm also very empathetic, and that has made me feel depressed from time to time. However, I think it's pretty easy to tell the difference--if the depression is a pretty constant or long-term thing, if it seems to apply more to your own thoughts and actions then to be related to thoughts or actions of another person, it is probably somewhat internal rather than being absorbed from an outside source. There are many factors that can go into causing depression, of course, so the situation of the other person might influence your depression but not be the whole cause of it.

Just avoid your neighbor. Don't listen to this persons sob stories. If it gets you so depressed that you just want to stay at home all the time, this is a toxic relationship and not a friend. I ended a friendship recently and feel better. This person has moved on to bug others and I simply want nothing to do with the person

From my experience I find that being depressed takes away from feeling emphatic. I think depression makes one to be more self absorbed. Your depression might have a different cause than just living next to a bad neighbor. A bad neighbor can make you angry, though. But depressed? I don't believe so.
