How do people function at work while suffering from depression and anxiety?

If you feel your depression and anxiety are affecting your performance or are making it too difficult for you to function normally, then you should seek help from a medical professional or psychologist. Thousands of people are going through the exact same thing you are and there is absolutely no shame in asking for help! Your Doctor or therapist can help you determine the best course of action for your lifestyle. This may involve a prescription medication to help bring the chemicals in your brain back to normal levels, therapy, or a combination of the two. Often medications will help, but therapy may be necessary to get to the root of what's causing your depression/anxiety and set you on the right path. For example, if medication alone alleviated your symptoms, but some of the main causes of your depression/anxiety hadn't been dealt with, the symptoms could simply reoccur upon termination of the medication. A therapist not only can give you the tools you may need to live a more satisfying lifestyle and beat anxiety attacks, but he/she can give you excellent suggestions for dealing with your symptoms in the workplace. Good luck! You will get through it!

More than likely if their depression and anxiety is effecting the work then they would be prescribed prescription. It is hard to work under anxiety, especially if it is an extreme case. Depression on the other hand is hitting them from all angles, so they would definitely have to take medication. It effects their lifestyle and sometimes medication is the only thing that can give them a chance.

It depends on the severity of depression. Many experts say that efficiency during major depression can be worse then the efficiency of someone with hearth disease. Because you can't easily concentrate on something you do, you can't enjoy life and you tend to sleep or think alone...

I have an anxiety disorder which can have depressive traits - it can be very difficult to cope and I often have to take a few mins out whilst at work to get myself together despite our illnesses life, goes on and you have to make money and you just have to push yourself, mixing with collegues, and the routine that work brings is good for you - regular days off (annual leave) medication and plenty of sleep are all things that help :)

Firstly seek help with the issues. If you have a regular Doctor
get with him and tell him how you are suffering. You have to
come first at this time. Best of luck.

My depression is bad and i have lost a lot of jobs because of it. I am now on SSDI, my life sucks!

Looking at your previous question I would go and look for a new job..............

If it's your present job that is making you depressed...Take the new one.
