Is is possible for Adderall to treat my depression?

I recently took Adderall to stay awake to write a paper. well I have previous experiences with cocaine, even though i enjoyed the high I hated the come down and the anxious feeling. Plus I am actually really concerned about being healthy, nevertheless that phase was very short lived and I havent tried it since. But the Adderall made me feel great there was no extreme high or nervousness, just energy and a feeling of contentment and postiveness. I have also had a history of eating disorders and depression, and the Adderall made me feel totally less self consciuous and just happy. I tooke 30mg for 3 days then decided to stop fearing i could be harming myself. I was extremely tired and back to feeling insecure and depressed. is it possible for Adderall to be a treatment for depression? Is it normal Adderall to have that effect on a person? is it bad for me to take it if i am not diagnosed ADHD?

Adderal is a RELATIVELY safe version of speed for you.

I emphasize the "relative" because it's not completely safe (it is habit forming, and you can OD on it, if you try).

I do have ADHD, and I will tell you I LOVED Adderal when I began taking it. It was like you described: my to-do list got marked off like nobody's business, I was happy, and energetic. There is a come-down, usually, after a dose, but I wouldn't call it a crash, just a bit more tired than normal. It is also habit forming, and if you take it regularly, you will become more tired and less productive for a while, when you don't take it (again, not severe, but think caffeine-type addictiveness; it can be kicked easily, but you will notice it).

If it really did help you, and you really can behave yourself and only take what you're supposed to take, then talk to your doctor. Make an appointment, and tell him/her about your history. Mention other medications you've been on, and tell him they didn't work, but that Adderal, on a very reasonable dose, does work. Ask your doctor for a prescription to try a low dose for a month, and see how you react. If you're good about taking it regularly, and your quality of life is improved, your doctor will likely keep prescribing it.

PLEASE check with a good doctor or psychiatrist. Tell him/her what you experienced and see what they think.

Don't be afraid to go to several different ones before you find one you can communicate with - it is SO worth the hassle.

You are right to be concerned about long term health affects, but it does sound like you may need something to help you get your body chemistry balanced.
It is always bad to take drugs not prescribed to you. But tell a doctor that the Adderall made you feel great and that will help him/her with a proper diagnosis.
