All the signs point to depression but how do I find help for her...?

without health insurance. My oldest sister recently moved in with me and I have been getting on her case about not waking up on time in order to make it to her classes, about not cleaning up behind herself, about spending every waking moment on the computer trying to meet guys, about calling in to work so often and about not keeping up with her physical appearance. Now I feel bad about it because a friend of mine advised me that it seems as though she is suffering from depression. She cries a lot and talks a lot about our baby sis who passed away last year. Also, she just got out of an abusive relationship & is now with me and basically relocated here with the clothes on her back. She never sleeps at night and has been running up my electric bill on the internet or watching television until 5 or 6 in the morning. Her condition is affecting my life and my marriage because we are basically taking care of her and my husband is not happy about it. I would like to know if she's depressed or

what could be wrong with her. She is in and out the door all night long smoking cigarettes. Our relationship has changed for the worst because of her behavior. My husband thinks she is taking advantage of us because she runs up all the bills, eats and drinks everything in sight, refuses to go to school and or work most days and basically just sits around waiting on us to buy food, pay bills etc so that she can benefit. Now I'm wondering if she really is depressed and without insurance, can she be helped?

I would sit down with your husband and set up some rules that your sister has to go by or she will have to find another place to live or get a job if she of age to help pay for the bills and food . also give a time frame that she can use the computer and watch TV the 2 of sit down with your sister with these rule if she agrees to them have her sign it. there are free support groups out there for her to go to for the grieving of your baby sister and for the abusive relationship that she was in.

Of course she's depressed, but not to the point where she needs medication. If she's fresh out of her relationship, I would assume that she still has feelings for the guy...she's suffering from a broken "over-with" relationship and, from what you're saying, her life in general. If she's chain smoking, watching TV, on the net all of the time, she's going through a very emotional stage right now. Try and talk to her and let her know that if she needs someone to talk to, then you're there. I think her situation is just going to take time. But you need to encourage her to get off of her butt and go get a job. PLEASE, also, you need to give her a time limit on staying with you...I know that will be hard, but your marriage must come first...your husband shouldn't be depressed in his own house due to your sister. It's time she lets go of all of the hurt and start the healing process.
