Post natal depression ??

i think one of my best friends has post natal depression but im not sure??

she says she hates her baby and wishes her life was like it was before she has mason. i was round at her house the other day with her husband becuase we'd just came back from buying her a present and mason was crying so we rushed upstaires to fund her layed on her bed with her pillow over her face trying to block out the noise.
she hasnt eaten or got out of bed. its really not like her... i offered to do her hair and makeup for her but she said no and then wanted to take her shopping but she also said no to that.

now she is coming out with that she wants to kill herself becuase shes not good enough for her and the world is better off without her. Shes never been like this before and were worried about her

add her to msn if you think you cant help its killing us seeing her like this candice-grace@hotmail.co.uk

being a mother is very tough. and right now it sounds like she has bad post natal depression. She needs to go see her doctor for herself and for her babies sake. I have seen worse cases and usually someone ends up getting really hurt or death. Even if her husband makes a call to her doctor stating his concerns, she may just need some meds for short term. I hope she seeks medical attention- and for right now I would not let her or her and the baby to be alone together.

If her family and friends cannot convince her to seek help, then someone needs to either take her to the ER or call emergency and have her committed long enough to get her on antidepressants so that she can think clearly. She is hurting and posing a threat to herself. She also is harming her child's emotional health and development. If it goes bad and she becomes delusional, she becomes a physical threat to the child.

Please persuade her to go to the doctor with you asap. She is probably not strong enough to do it for herself. There are treatments available and she doesn't have to suffer like this :)

she needs care immediatly, the father or someone should talk with her pediatrician for a referral. post natal depression can end in suicide or homicide of the child so its very serious

I've had post partum depression and what you are saying sounds pretty much like I was. Get her to some help even if she resists she still needs it and her baby needs her to be healthy. The sooner the better because I know I still live with some residual guilt having spent months hating my child who is now a very happy 2 year old.
There is medicine that can help and the best news is that if she gets help quickly this is not a long lasting kind of depression. Once the hormone levels are back in check and the stress is under control then she should be pretty much back to her old self (other than the changes that naturally come with becoming a parent).
