I have depression and sleep a lot. Is this related?

I've had depression for the past 2 years. I've tried the medication. I've tried the psychologist counseling. But none of this worked.
I no longer take the medication, as I am only 17 and I have to wait until I am 18 before I can try a stronger form of anti-depressant.
I have days of numbness, where I am unable to feel good or bad emotions, and then I have good days, where I seem like a normal teenager, then I have bad days, where I wake up in a bad mood and I stay that way for the whole day. The bad days are more frequent though.

I used to drink a fair bit too, but I have stopped that. I have considered suicide, but it's only me and my Dad at home and I feel guilty thinking about it, because it is not fair on him.

But anyway, the point of asking a question was, I take ages to get to sleep, like I go to sleep at like 3-4 in the morning, and then, I wake up anywhere from 8-10, but then I just don't feel like I can get up. I want too, but something in my head tells me to keep sleeping.

Well theres 2 things tht mite b affecting this first off yah when ur depressed u feel slugish and mad at stuff or tht mite b by polar disease. Also u hardly get enough sleep so tht mite also b a cause. I mean when i was depressed i felt sluggish couldn't sleep well and slept alot when i'm not supposed too and i felt mad and sad like all the time.

It is a common symptom of depression, sleeping alot or not sleeping at all. When you just feel like you can't drag yourself out of bed, no matter the consequences is a normal thing if you are depressed. Try making yourself get up and get in the shower and get dressed, even if you don't go anywhere or do anything else the whole day, you have accomplished that. If you do this everyday no matter how rotten you feel, you will start to feel better.

that happens when u stay up that late and go to bed. your body doesnt get as much of a good nights sleep as it would if u went to bed at like 10 or 11. if u sleep longer than 10 hours some chemical (forget what its called) goes back into ur muscles making u sluggish and tired and the only way to release it is to exercise. depression is also contributing to it.

Yes. When you are depressed. You feel less motivated to do anything.

It is very hard. But think about things that you like to do. Even getting up to watch tv is better than not getting up at all. Maybe you can get up to eat if that make you feel a little better (people feel light headed when they don't have enough food or nutrition).
