Depression/anxiety causing problems. meds??

ok. so, i was diagnosed with depression and an anxiety disorder a while back, but a few months ago it got worse. and now my phsycologist dude is sayin he's gonna put me on meds. i dont know if this matters, but watev, im 13 [14 soon] smaller built. and no allergies other than nickel. so what meds would he probably put me on? and are there any side effects?? and what are they supposed to do to me?

thanxx for ur help :)

I hope you realize that you have a choice about medication. You don't have to go along with whatever he says he wants to do. As long as you are not a danger to yourself or others, he can't make you do anything.

Common depression and anxiety drugs are Xanax, Zoloft, Prozac, Wellbutrin, the list goes on... They all have side effects. Some cause sexual dysfunction, weight gain, and grogginess. A lot of them react to many other drugs, or alcohol.

Psychiatric drugs are serious business. Go into this decision well-informed. Any drug he asks you to take, go research before you take it.

I'm not really sure you should be on meds at your age, unless it is a temporary situation.
It's hard to answer this question because I don't know your history, but please be very careful, a lot of doctors don't always know their meds and are quick to prescribe.
There are sooo many combinations and some can be very dangerous!
Zoloft, (lower dosage), and Lamictal, (start on a low dosage, then slowly raise it), are 2 medications that don't seem to have many side effects.
A very low dosage, 0.5, of Lorazepan may help with anxiety, however, those should only be taken when you're "really" anxious. My daughter was on these 3 meds for a "couple" of months, during a difficult time. They did help her cope.
I would like to know why you were diagnosed with depression and nothing was done at that time.
I would definitely get a second opinion!

P.S. If you are put on meds, make sure you don't skip any and NEVER take more than prescribed.
Also, if you are on Lamictal and start to see any kind
of rash, talk to your doctor and they should take you off immediately.

Good luck. :)
