Depression question???

I live with my husband and his sister lives with us. She rents a room from us and she keep to herself. She pays rent and helps around the house, but there is something bothering me. I recently have been putting my life together after a long battle with depression. I have my days, but i haven't fallen off the wagon yet for a relapse. My problem is that my sister inlaw has manic depression and always will. This shouldn't bother me, but it seems like she is depressed then i am depressed with her. It feels like it rubbs off her to me. We try to support each other so we don't both fall of the wagon, but some days she is so depressed that is sad. She can't help it and i dont want her to move or leave. I do things ih aven't done in a long time, such as shop, do house work, enjoy time with friends, work full time, and my marriage isn't suffering that bad anymore. When she says i wish i could do that and starts to cry, i feel guilty. I know she can't help it but what can i do?

as hard as it might be, probably the best thing you can both do for each other is ask her to move out. yeah, you said that you didnt want that to happen, but given the fact that you both suffer from depression, its not good to be spending so much time together. depressed people... suicidal people... self harms, they all tend to feed off each other.

sometimes you wont even notice it, but its very common for people to talk about their issues, compare, encourage and often act out with each other.

had a similar problems with my friends... several of them have been in a similar place as me, and we often self harm together, plans suicidal attempts together and things like that.

i understand that you both want to support each other, but you can still do that when you dont live together.

all the best

The medical researchers, who were so very sure they understood uni-polar and bi-polar depression, and who gave the world anti-depressants, seem as sure of themselves as ever! Their cure, anti-depressants, was recently found to have equal effectiveness to the administration of flour-and-water placebos.

St. John's Wart, a herb from, I think, Germany, offers far better relief from depression. It has a side-effect, sadly. This herb makes one very suseptible to sunburn!

The very best antidote to depression, if the sufferer can find the motivation, is a formidable regime of physical exercise. This truth has been known for some time, but it has possibly been supressed as nobody makes much money out of ill people exercising to cure themselves.
