Depression medication without prescription?

Are there any types of medications that you know of that you can take without going to the doctor, getting a prescription, and seeing a therapist? I don't have a lot of money (or time) and can't afford to do this. Please, also, no comments on religion and finding inner peace - I have my own personal beliefs and they will comfort me in whatever way they can. Also, I'm not looking for a quick answer like drinking alcohol.

What I'm looking for, is some type of legal drug/medication that I can get that will help with my mental health and happiness. I know that exorcise can help with depression, but I'm already exorcising. I need some type of actual medication I can get, without a prescription.

Thank you so much, everyone!

There are herbal sublements that will help mood some......but that wouldnt be any more then exercise already would or meditation or something along those lines.

As far as meds, you HAVE to see a dr. there are no otc antidepressants. This is because antidepressants are not happy pills. They adjust the brain malfuction that causes SOME depression. YOu have to see a psyciatrist to know that those meds are what you need. If they arnt what you need they will do you no good.

Would be like getting chemotherapy done because you THINK you have cancer.

Omega 3 fish oil. Per peer reviewed medical research, 1-2 grams of the EPA ingredient is as effective as 20mg of Prozac. It doesn't work for everyone, but it does for many. Give it a few weeks. If you don't see an improvement, give St John's Wort a try. If still no improvement, find time and cash for a therapist or see a doctor. You probably will have exhausted your natural options.

Btw, like others posting, I am bipolar. My pdoc recommended Omega 3 and it does work a little for me. I'll also say that if your depression persists, you are much better off treating it before it takes more from your life... but that's your choice.

I have been bipolar for nearly 20 years and it would be in your best interest to see a psychiatrist for a diagnosis. A psychologist can't dispense medication. It takes time for a psychiatrist to know what meds would give you the best results. Exercises would not have helped my condition, or self medication, or talking it over. Spend the money and give the time because you're worth it!

they say st john wort... helps with depression,,, health store

Its certainly possible to recover without meds. Most do if have a light depression, and either deal with or ignore it.The 2 most common methods are to go to therapy classes or alcohol. People all over are depressed and desperately trying to pretend to themselves that they are ok.
The best thing 2 do is research it, Get 2 know and understand how it works why you have it and What triggers it.
So many people take meds thinking this will fix it, but it only holds it back. But people continue living the same life where this either started or was triggered. Examining your life your history and your future possibilities are what needs to occur for any recovery meds or not!!
You must have medical support unfortunately too many GPs simply write a prescription when any one say's they are drpressed, so AVOID this!!
Meds. are Not always the answer, but they do relieve the symptoms, for most so they can at least relate to life.
In simple terms work hard, avoid alcohol and drugs, execise and eat regularly and healthy. No Guarantees there and of course depression stops many people even trying these things.
With meds obviously you've tried them before, don't rule them out if things deteriorate. Think of them as your life boat to be used when needed and Only then.
Something to think about Good Luck!!!!
