Depression: Weird Situation?

I am a 17 year old male. I cannot tell my parents I have depression. I really need help. I am always negative. I don't "feel". I'm not sexually attracted to anyone. I don't care about anything. I'm just kind of "here".

I am physically healthy. I exercise and eat healthy. Are there any natural supplements that can help me combat these symptoms?

Thanks for your time.

Please don't recommend I tell my parents to get me a psychology appointment.

Have you looked into the health benefits of fish oil? More and more, I'm hearing great things about it, especially with mental health. One of my coworkers who had anxiety and depression has seemed to benefit from daily supplements. Here's a few excerpts from WebMD. You can click on the link for further reading.

"In a new study, people who added a daily dose of omega-3 fatty acids to their regular antidepressant treatment had significant improvement in symptoms, including anxiety, sleeping problems, sadness, decreased sexual desire, and suicidal tendencies.
Previous studies have suggested that depressed people have lower-than-normal levels of a fatty acid known as EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), which plays an important role in maintaining normal brain function.
The omega-3 fatty acid may work to ease depression by improving the effectiveness and absorption of existing medications, the researchers say. But they note that a limited number of their patients who are not on antidepressant therapy have seen improvements similar to those seen in this study through treatment with fish-oil supplements alone."

If things don't improve for you, at the very least look into a local support group. You may benefit from the wisdom of the group.

Best wishes.

Do you have any specific reason to feel that way? You know, some people have a "depressive-kind of" personality, and it's not necessarily bad, just a way of looking at things that happen everyday. Is this depression you feel harming your everyday activities?

I just recommend you to try and forget about this "depression", always try looking at the good side of the things, and stop demanding too much from yourself if you have the narcissist kind of personality. Or maybe you could be lacking some vitamins in your body, but if you say that you eat healthy, then this shouldn't be a motive to worry.

I just turned 18, and I've felt like you sometimes, but it's only a bad "season", if you'd like to call it that way. Hang around with your friends and enjoy the life, you'll regret it later if you continue with the negative attitude. Also, talking with a close friend or adult will always help, it doesn't necessarily have to be your parents. Take your time, think about the things you've done and want to do.

Cheers.

Stev,

Depression is a widespread illness that affects many people, and unfortunately more and more teenagers are being diagnosed with it each day.

In saying that however, it's perfectly natural for people at your age to be going through a mild "down" period of their lives. Your mind and body are still growing, and a lot is going on in your subconscious as you approach adulthood.

Knowing whether or not you have true clinical depression, or are just simply going through a "phase of the blues", can be difficult to tell for the uninitiated.

If you're not prepared to attend a psychologist, then there are a number of online resources that you may read in order to understand what the tell tale symptoms of true clinical depression are.

Be careful though with the various treatments that different people on the internet advise you with. A lot of the natural stuff quite simply doesn't work and is related purely to the placebo effect, whilst other natural remedies do work.

Medication should be considered a last resort, but can be useful in helping you to achieve a more positive outlook towards life.

Good Luck.

I am so glad that you posted this. I am 19 and grew up in a family that strived for perfection. I went to boarding school and now attend an ivy league school all because of their wishes. I have been depressed for as long as I can remember and have just now been diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I was afraid to tell my parents that I was depressed because that would destroy their dreams of perfection.

But- you are the perfect age. I assume you're in high school. See if your school has counseling. It will most likely be free and confidential. In college, I go to counseling for free and it's been such an amazing help. The best part about the confidentiality is that you can feel better about yourself, without disclosing to family or friends that you have a problem.

Good luck

First it appears that you are asexual, and also that you just don't have any motivation in life and/or goals. I don't either. But I'm happy with that. Apparently you are not. So, think about what you would like to do with your future, and then take steps towards achieving your future goals. Doing what it takes to do so right now will occupy your time and mind, and the ultimate accomplishment of the goals will be your reward.

if you research online you can find out the best naural remedies for beating depression. they have different times and you can choose which you think would be okay for you. Omega 3 Fish oils are supposed to help and you could try them. you can speak to your GP about being depressed and aask if there are any ways to seek help without your parents knowledge. i was only 15 when i went to my doctor for help but i ended up having to tell my parents. your GP can help you however they can and if you are closer to 18 you may be able to speak to someone without your parents. good luck

maybe you need a change of scenery. How long have you been living in your current town? Do you see the same people everyday? Just suck it up until you go to college or get a job elsewhere.

why did i get a thumbs down

try doing something super fun like an amusment park or do something different, make new friends and stuff.

why can't u tell ur parents??? i did, it really helps.
