Mania and Depression?

Is it possible to have mania and depression in psychosis and not have bipolar disorder?

Is it possible to have maina and depression in pychosis and not be bipolar.

Is pychosis genetics?

The most common diagnoses for ppl who experience psychosis in the states you mention are bipolar and schizo-affective disorders. The distinguishing factor is that those with bipolar do not experience psychosis when their mood is normal. Those with schizo-affective may and usually do if not medicated.

As for mood states, it is possible to experience psychosis during depression, mania, and mixed states (being depressed and manic at the same time). This applies both to ppl with bipolar and schizo-affective.

Psychosis may be genetic. Both illnesses are thought to be. Psychosis is a part of schizo-affective as with schizophrenia, so it's pretty much yes there. Psychosis is a subset of those with bipolar and there is thought that it may be a genetic trait there as well.

Yes.

In fact, if another disorder (e.g., Schizoaffective disorder) better accounts for the symptoms of bipolar disorder (e.g., mania, depression), bipolar disorder should NOT be diagnosed.

Persons with schizoaffective disorder commonly report manic and depressive episodes in addition to their psychotic features.

Both psychotic and affective/mood disorders have a strong genetic component.

A site really useful for describing mania and depression (BP) as well as anxiety is: http://cherished79.wordpress.com

Many newsworthy articles are included and it also contains some personal articles on many other subjects. Also there are links to mental health sites.

Hope it helps.

Just because it's free doesn't mean it's no good. In fact it's the only thing which REALLY works. I think the psychs are a lot of con merchants (if you read the research, I recommend Dr Peter Breggin's book "Toxic Psychiatry") and are messing with people's brains, and completely ruining them in many cases.
Don't worry about the labels the doctors put on a person's distressed behaviour . Concentrate on getting rid of the anger etc and enjoying your life. Take care of yourself and beware of the many people in the world who are out to make money out of your pain. You don't need them, there is the above, simple solution.
