Does anyone know the signs of depression?feeling depressed for long periods of time is usually amongst them.
why don't you google it, there are scores of sites devoted to depression. There are a lot actually, but it varies depending on the person and their situation. When I was depressed I looked up depression symptoms and although I fit most of them, there were some that were not happening to me.
Usually you start to lose interest in what you normally enjoy doing. Things like sex, masterbaition, hanging out with friends and anything of the sort, you will stop having the want or need for anymore. It will seem like a chore, a bore and you just won't get any fulfillment from it.
I got to the point where I couldn't do anything. I literally sat around all day doing nothing. I eventually got into drawing and all of that, but other then that I didn't do anything.
I had weird stress attacks, I would become dizzy and almost faint, especially in the mornings and I would often miss the morning of school because I just didn't have the physical energy no matter how much I tried. I would also have hot flashes, periods of time where I would sweat and feel really hot when it wasn't that warm at all.
When i would get stressed, i would feel a weird prickling sensation in the back of my head that just filled me with a sense of giving up, and I would often run away (not actually, I would leave the house to go see a friend for support) and it would take my mind off things until i had to go back.
One thing I noticed is that I never wanted to leave my bed, all I wanted to do was sleep. And I used to think that I just didn't want to be awake. I never thought of suicide or anything like that but I did sometimes wish I was not alive anymore. You think a lot more negativly as well.
The doctor put me on antidepressants and it made it ten times worse. It made everything worse, matter of fact. I got physically ill, and it was just awful.
Eventually I stopped taking them and started to feel better! Symptoms of depression include:
* Loss of interest in normal daily activities
* Feeling sad or down
* Feeling hopeless
* Crying spells for no apparent reason
* Problems sleeping
* Trouble focusing or concentrating
* Difficulty making decisions
* Unintentional weight gain or loss
* Irritability
* Restlessness
* Being easily annoyed
* Feeling fatigued or weak
* Feeling worthless
* Loss of interest in sex
* Thoughts of suicide or suicidal behavior
* Unexplained physical problems, such as back pain or headaches
Depression symptoms can vary greatly because different people experience depression in different ways. A 25-year-old man with depression may not have the same symptoms as a 70-year-old man, for instance. For some people, depression symptoms are so severe that it's obvious something isn't right. Others may feel generally miserable or unhappy without really knowing why. For major depression, you may experience five or more of the following for at least a two-week period:
In Adults:
* Persistent sadness, pessimism
* Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness or hopelessness
* Loss of interest or pleasure in usual activities, including sex
* Difficulty concentrating and complaints of poor memory
* Worsening of co-existing chronic disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis or diabetes
* Insomnia or oversleeping
* Weight gain or loss
* Fatigue, lack of energy
* Anxiety, agitation, irritability
* Thoughts of suicide or death
* Slow speech; slow movements
* Headache, stomachache, and digestive problems
In children and adolescents:
* Insomnia, fatigue, headache, stomachache, dizziness
* Apathy, social withdrawal, weight loss
* Drug abuse or alcohol abuse, a drop in school performance, difficulty concentrating
* Isolation from family and friends
* For dysthymia (minor, but long-term depression), symptoms are less intense and fewer in number, but long-lasting.
If you are having suicidal thoughts, or thought about self harming or attempted either of the two you know you are depressed.

Hope this helped!! there are many signs.
some include:
not wanting to leave the house
trouble getting up
trouble sleeping
trouble relaxing
change in your temprement (become grouchy for example)
not feel like doing anything, even your favourite things,
not feel like socialising,
cant motivate self to do normal/day time activities - such as cook food or wash or get dressed up etc
if you have more than 2 or 3, check it out at your doctors. they can prescribe medication if needed or can get you signed up to see a counsellor, which can be really helpful to talk through issues. in fact, id recommend talking to someone about it, and i mean really talking, if you can.

any other related questions you can e-mail me. When you are sad more than happy. You would not feel the energy or excitment for life & instead feel like it was no use in doing things...It is seeing problems in black & white instead of all the many solutions. Seeing things as hopeless instead of willing to take on a challenge. can be anything like: lack of libido, lack of motivation for work, pulling away from friends/family, becoming a recluse, insomnia, or sleeping very long hours and not wanting to get up, loss of personal hygiene, lack of apetitie or binge eating, being irratible and easily flying of the handle or being overly defensive often. lack of interest in things youd normally enjoy, wanting to distance yourself from close friends and family, constant feelings of sadness, emptiness, purposelessness or anything similar, thoughts of suicide-you get the idea. or it can be physical, like reocurring headaches, or body aches. it's pretty much just a constant state of down... 1. Lost interest in things you'd normally enjoy.
2. Keeping really quiet and isolated.
3. Crying or being really upset about nothing in particular, sounds like PMS but it's a lot more complicated than that.
There's just a few I remember, but I hope it helps. My sister used to be depressed too. She did the whole cutting thing, trying to commit suicide and such. But with some counselling and medication she's gotten better.
Oh and missing school. My parents thought I was depressed too when my sister was going through it, but it was just because I was sick with worry about her and ended up wearing myself out.
